Console Shifter Taking A...Not Working Right!

Hey all, just wondering if anyone else has had problems with their center console shifter? I have an 04 150 with about 140k miles and when Im in park, not always, it hangs up. I cant shift out of park. I usually just keep trying to push the button constantly and it eventually lets me shift out of park. Any ideas on what is going out or breaking? I know this, I hate that shifter and will never buy another vehicle with one...unless they have been improved. Thanks for any info.

Check the switch on the brake pedal. If it's not making, you can't shift out of park, I believe.

I'm having the same problem with my 08 Lariat 80,000k; the dealer is asking $400 to do the repair.

not sure what causes that as mine is still working.
I just wanted to mention that your taste is excellent.

I have an '04 DSC scab, with black headlights, wheels, and toolbox... and I use to ride an '04 R6 with a mig highmount...
looks like your bike is an '05, but that does look like it could be a mig...

Is you girl chinese too? hahahha

Forget the dealer. Call Tasca and ask for the interlock solenoid actuator thingy for your steering column or center console shifter, whichever you have. It'll run you about $70. Unscrew the console housing (for center) and take two screws out of the driver's side of the shifter assembly. Remove that piece, replace with new one. Reinsert screws, rebuild housing. Done.

**** Ford.

If you have any other questions, PM me. I can take pics if you'd like. Trust me, I am a complete auto-illiterate and I did this myself. It's easy.

Before you do anything. Crawl under your truck and look on the left side of the tranny. You'll see where the the linkage from the center console connects to the transmission. The connection to the transmission is a cheap plastic clip. Mine cracked and wasnt going into the selected gear. I discovered this at a stop light after down shifting into second while coming to a stop. Light turned green, threw it into drive and she went in reverse... I was also having troubles getting into park just prior to this incident.

That line snapped for me. Could turn the truck on and shift, it just wouldn't do anything.
