2004 - 2008 F150 Chrome bumper for trade?

Hi guys, just new to this forum, lot's of great info and tips, I have a 2004 F150 Supercrew with the chrome front and rear bumpers, I wanted to get the plastic ones, I hate the chrome ones, the front has the rectangular Fog lights, I wanted to know if anyone had installed a body kit and had the OEM ones colecting dust................ if so, please let me know. My truck is Red, but I don't care what color the bumpers are as I will be repainting the whole truck nxt year.

I live in GA........Or if anyone would like the crome bumper set in exchange of the painte ones, let me know.

Thanks Guys.

There are no plastic ones. They're all metal and come either chrome or primed to be PTM (paint to match). Yours will fit 2004 - 2005. You'll need ones from that year. 2006 - 2008 are redesigned and would need different mounting hardware.

Edit: Welcome to the forum.

there are no plastic bumpers.

there are the chrome bumpers, the XL gray painted bumpers, and the PTM'd bumpers. All of them are steel, no plastic.

Another thing to consider is that the bumpers (both front and back) changed after the 2005 production year. So 2004/2005 trucks share similar bumper mounting, etc and Aug. 2005 06's and later have a different set of mounting hardware. Be aware of that if you're going to change your bumper.

damn it 2008_XL, i should read all the posts before i reply... lol

thanks guys for the welcomes and info, I definately didn't know about the difference in years, I just assumed they were the same.......have a nasty work schedule for the next 3wks so barley any time for research..........anyway, my goal is for a
-Roush Chin lip (anyone has one used I WILL BUY!!!)
-Saleen vented hood (anyone has a used one I WILL ALSO BUY!!!)
-And not sure what set of side skirts I want, I like the Cervini's but they are EXPENSIVE!!! (anyone???)

anyway, I will look for primed bumpers as they told me if they painted the chrome ones it would peel........my question is, why can't they sand blast the damn chrome off then paint them, would save me the hastle of buying new ones and trying to sell the old ones.......

You can have them blasted, but you better make sure whoever paints them knows what thier doing. My rear chrome bumper was blasted and primed to PTM. However, regular self etching primer didn't work, they had to use a expensive new primer to get it to work. They told me that they'll never do another one for the price they quoted me.....$100. Good for me though. As for the front bumper, I would just replace it with a used already painted one, or just go aftermarket. Since a front bumper is going to get more abuse then a rear, I chose not to blast my front bumper, instead I went aftermarket. Fits perfectly and nobody can tell that its aftermarket.

Here's some before and after pics.

AFTER

A new aftermarket front bumper cost me about $140.00 To sandblast the rear cost me $25 bucks. Total cost to prime rear bumper and PTM front and rear was $200.

Looks nice but I worry that with anything but a show truck use they would get marked. Bump a cow or through a field and I bet they get scuffed.

You can get a aftermarket front bumper at any auto parts websites. I got mine of E-bay. It will come primed, but will still need painting. As far as rear bumpers, they are very expensive. Cheapest rear bumper I found was about $350 bucks and that was aftermarket. Thats why I just had my rear bumper blasted and then painted.

Thats with any painted bumper, factory or aftermarket. If you have one painted be sure the shop uses quality auto paint like PPG. Any cheap auto paint probably will scuff more than a good paint.

be ready to pay a decent amount for good paint too... I had my front and rear bumpers as well as the front upper bumper repainted from the XL grey to true blue at a local body shop using their top quality paint and it was damn close to $1200 bucks, that includes them removing the bumpers and re-priming them (also it is Milwaukee WI prices, the service rate can vary based on location).

I'll admit, Maaco (or other reduced rate body shop) would have been cheaper, and decent, but their paint quality is mostly crap. If you want it done right, and to last, you will end up paying for it.

The vent's look cool, and they are very cost effective, but the hood is still plain looking, but will consider it none the less......... I really want the ROUSH chin lip the most at this moment.

I will hunt for a red or white F-150 bumper set at the local junk yards to start............

Nice truck UofK, I was REALLY hunting for a white F-150 but couldn't find one with descent mileage and price, I am taking my truck for paint and body work in Feb, lost control and damaged the passenger side doors (DAMN CONSTRUCTION SITES!!!!), I am really and HIGHLY considering changing the color to white (it has to do with company colors/MARKETING n' Self promotion), anyway, that is weighing down on my head heavily, but I hate when a car is painted a diff color and you open the hood or doors and see the old color, looks tacky........don't you think?

In any case, I am really trying to use MINIMAL funds on these mods depending on what the Insurance Co says, but it's not like I can say "let me fix the dents then later when Biz flows, then I will do the paint", got 1001 things to consider.......... AAAAARGH!

I just had an idea, How about Painting it White, leave the door seals and under hood red, then use that as a color scheme to the Truck, Red Highlights all over like Calipers, Seats etc.........but I think that will also clash with Black Race stripes this is so confusing. What do you guys think? I know having them strip a car to paint it whole is $$$$$$$$$$$$, money I don't have.
