Need Opinions, thinking of line-xing the entire truck
As stated above i am considering this because my pain job has really got beaten up since i take my truck off roading pretty often. My biggest regret is not buying a white one but it's no late now. I plan on repainting it at some time, but I realize it will just get damaged again. Came across this:

I think it looks pretty bad azz. Checked with a local dealer and was quoted 2000 to do the whole truck. They have a lot of experience and have a special layer they spray on for exteriors that keeps it from fading. I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea.
This is what my truck looks like now except i now have dik cepek tires and minus the worlds biggest antenna.

I just got my truck back from the Line-X dealer today. I didnt to the entire truck but I like the looks of the one you posted. I have not asked my insurance agent if, say the truck gets wrecked, will the replacement of the line-x be on them or me? also the stuff does add weight. My step bars only weighed 10 lbs a pice and after neing sprayed they are almost double, atleast it feels like it. Here is a pic of my truck after the line-x. I like the idea of doing the hole truck but not sure with all the weight how it would affect everything.

id just leave it alone really. just scratch the hell out of the black paint. if its a wheelin truck, dont be ahamedof it. take that 2k and invest in a locker in the rear, and a limited slip in the front.
Never seen a WHOLE truck Line-X'ed, but have seen plenty with the bottom done. Looks pretty good with the right truck (color, wheel/tire combo...). I personally would never do it to my own, but that doesn't mean I still don't like it (again, needs to be the right truck combo IMHO).
I definitely think your truck would look good with the bottom Line-X'ed !!

I think i would consider line-x'ing the bottom rocker part and getting some flares with a little more protection.
Also, I bought a set of Rocker Flares but haven't decided if I like them enough to keep them and install. I been thinking about building a nerf bar type step for my truck. I just want some sort of paint protection too, but I think steps would help me quite a bit, probably more so for me than they help you.

Anyways, I have seen to many jeeps for off-roading that were completely line-x'd and they didn't look to great, but worked pretty good for functionality. Plus, i'm not sure if you have ever had anything line-x'd but I know my bed is, and if I don't wash and scrub it really good the soap will retain in it and it gets a little funky smelling after some nice sun action.

Thank you all for your input. Ya, I'm kind of up in the air right now. I spoke with my buddy who has a jeep, he mentioned about he fading and it not looking the best on some jeeps, but they all used rattle cans. As far as weight, I am curious about that. A thin layer of that stuff wouldn't weight that much imo but maybe i'm wrong. One reason i am thinking of holding off is if i ever decide to sell. At this point i don't plan on it but who know, i always change my mind.
Sounds goofy as all hell. But pratical. $2,000 is a great price if your dealer does it right. It's about $600 just to do the inside of the bed. But make sure you communicate it to him that you want "the whole" truck. That means inside the door frames, plus bed and body off so that you can get the underside and the back of the cab that the bed is covering. It sounds like a whole lot of work, and I don't know if $2,000 will cover the whole job. Maybe he is just quoting you for shooting it "as is" like they do in those discount paint shops. Ever see a car that has a different color when you open the door?
Remembering back to the early 70's at the Detroit Auto Show. They had on display Uncle Ted's Bronco. Scratch proof paint, kind of a dull or matte finish - very nice. His was done in camo, but wondering if it could be duplicated in any other color? I don't see why not.
Personally, I like it! If my paint took a beating but I still loved my truck, I'd have it Line-X'd as well. I would decide which pieces I would NOT L-X just to add some contrast like mirrors, door handles, those pieces between the windows, grill, etc, but who knows, maybe those pieces would look better L-X'd...
I also think that since your truck is black and I assume you'd go with black L-X, then I wouldn't worry about doing the inside of the doors, I think it would be fine.
In any event, I am curious to see how this would turn out... it is one HELL of a commitment! If you do, you better post pics!

Nobody is going to buy that truck when it comes time to replace it if it has been rhino lined...
Then again, if you're always off roading the truck, no one will probably want to touch it... its not hard to tell when a truck has done significant off roading.
that is alot of abuse on the truck that wears certain components faster than average. Plus if it is affecting your paint so badly, imagine the components under the truck that are probably scraping rocks and small plants...
Side note, I don't understand it. Why not get a cheap, late 80's truck to go mudding / off roading in, something that you don't care if you screw up.
