My turck is slamming into gear after slowing down and accel, why?
My sons Ranger did that, I went to dealer and got a tube of special slip yoke lube, Its teflon and its called PTFE. Drop the driveshaft after making position with chalk or crayon. Take clamps off rubber shroud that covers slip yoke. Degrease slip yoke, I used brake cleaner and old toothbrush. Let dry then apply the PTFE lube liberally. Put together the same way it came apart. I used nylon zip ties to attach rubber shroud. Put it back together being careful to align your marks and it should be as smooth as a baby's butt!
Anyway....I think my 2004 SuperCrew with ~88K needs to have the "slip yoke" lubed. The local dealership quoted me one hundred bucks to do the job. But, after reading all of these "slip yoke" related posts (especially the one above)...I figured I can do the job myself and went and purchased the special PTFE lube mentioned above for under ten dollars. Before I begin this job myself (for the first time)....I do have a few questions (below):
1) Can the clamps be taken off the rubber shroud without destroying them?
2) How do you remove the clamps from the rubber shroud.....do you just just cut them off or what?
3) If the clamps are destroyed when you take them off.....what do you replace them with when you put it all back together? The post above said he used nylon zip ties.....is that adequate?
Any other ideas or comments would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Couple more questions (please) on the rear driveshaft Slip Yoke and the boot clamps....
My Haynes Repair Manual talks about using a special tool to crimp the boot clamps (like those on the slip yoke boot). It also says that this tool is available at most auto parts stores.
Has anybody ever used this tool on the slip yoke boot clamps? Is it really necessary or can you use something else? Can you get replacement slip yoke boot clamps at local auto parts stores? For those that have done this job....what did you use?
Many thanks....I appreciate the help!
