Newbie here!

Well my wife and I finally got our first Ford truck. It is a 2007 Ford F150 Lariate crew cab 4x4. It is the white sand metallic color. It has every option except for back up camera and navigation.

I have a new owner questions.....

1)It has the 20" inch wheels... what are the biggest tires that can fit it in stock form? What about with a 2.5" leveling kit?

2) How hard is it to locate a factory navigation unit and install it? Will the steering wheel buttons still function?

3) If above navigation unit is found... is the truck pre-wired for the rear view camera? If so is it difficult to find the tailgate handle with the camera?

4) Any recommendations to do to the truck? I don't care about making it faster but would like to know anything that can improve MPG as I drive 350 miles a week to work and back.

We are not strangers to Ford and love Fords. My wife drives a 2009 Mustang GT/CS and my new truck will be pulling my 65 Mustang to the drag strip on the weekends!

Welcome to the site !

1. With a spacer (AKA, level kit) you can cram a 35" tire under the truck, but it will require trimming. IMHO, a 35 looks a bit too tall on a non-lifted truck. Again, IMHO a 33" tire is the perfect look for a non-lifted truck. I have the 20" OEM wheels too and 33" Mickey Thompson's (305-55/20). I installed the AutoSpring 2" spacer (it has an offset which most others DO NOT). Cost me $65 shipped to my door.

2. Unless the factory Nav you pick up already came out of an F150 with the steering wheel controls, you'll have to have it reprogrammed. There was someone on this site which I purchased mine from and he also programmed it as well to work (I have an 06 Lariat). Don't recall who tho, sorry.

4. The best thing you can do for the MPG dilemma is to drive it VERY VERY conservatively. So much so that you may irritate those behind you, but who cares! The cost of add-ons would be more than what you could recoup in MPG's saved over a very long while. I installed a basic Edge programmer to correct for the taller tires. I run it on Level-2. If I drive conservatively, I can pull 17-19MPG at ~ 60mph, depending on the wind and road incline.

Any pics of you stang?

Here are a couple of my 10 second terror ....

Honeslty if you want the MPGs then dont lift the truck at all lol. But if you want the looks and i think it looks great on our F150s when they have a leveling kit and some beefy looking 35s under there. But as for getting some MPGs back do what was stated above. Keep you foot off the gas. But to help you can get a Programmer, Exhaust, CAI, and or some Gears.

I just got out of a lifted truck and I actually want to stay away from the lifted scene for a while. It became to be an annoyance (especially in the waller) once the coolness wore off. It was a Titan with a 6" lift and 35" mud tires. The wife is pressing me to lift it though haha. The Ford's do look awesome lifted!

We were looking at the SkyJacker 3" kit that comes with a spacer, rear add a leaf, and new shocks for under $500 new.

Anybody have experience with this?

Id jump on that if your wanting to stay lower than your last truck. You will still be able to run 35s easily. It will look good and perform just as well.

I edited the above post. I had the information on the lift wrong. It was a 3" skyjacker kit.

There are some really nice stangs in this thread. RMS8- that is the cleanist Mustang II I have ever seen. Fivespeedsteed- you are making me miss my 93 GT I had.

Here are a few pictures of ours..

My 65.. Just a N/A 289 on pump gas ( best run to date was 11.82@115)

The wife's 09 GT California Special

Dad's 09 Roush 427R ( burning up the clutch on this burnout haha)

Father in law's 2006 Hertz Rental Car edition GT350

My brother in law drives a 2011 Gt Calif Spec. with the 5.0, my dad also has a 2001 Bullitt GT, and my father in law has a handful of 69 and 70 Boss 302's and Mach 1's.

We are definitely a Ford family haha!

Love that 65 !!!!

All my track pix were obviously taken by other folk....unfortunately, they are all camera illiterate and can't snap a live action shot to save their life.....
