Those of you that had battery issues...

...did a different brand battery fix the issue or did it die too?

I know lots of you had no problems at all with your battery, but I know lots did too. This morning my second battery in 5 years kicked the bucket. My first one died while in warranty so I ended up getting another Motorcraft battery. Now that this one died I want something else to prevent the hassle. When I called around one guy, instead of just trying to get cash from me, actually said that I'd be better off finding out if there's an issue with the truck instead.

Before I give Ford a bunch of money to diagnose the battery/alternator, was it just bad Motorcraft batteries that gave so many people the problem or was it something else?

According to Betty's birth certificate her stock battery lasted almost 4 years and 7 months, falling just short of the 7th month mark by a bit.

I replaced it with a duralast gold as well.
So far so good, its been cold (20-30F) in the morning and its always started strong.

The old one died abruptly, but after 4-5 jump starts to other cars/trucks and a new 300@ amp, a in dash DVD player and my gryphon I can't blame it.

The oldest battery I ever had was a AC/Delco in my 1997 Grand am.

When I got it, I pulled a DEAD O.E A/D battery out of a 1999 pointiac grand prix (this was in 2005) and it lasted for 2 years.

8 years! that battery was tough!

That's kind of what I was expecting, thanks! I think I'll just buy a new (good) battery and maybe get them to check everything next time I go for an oil change or something.

If anyone else has any experiences please keep posting.

My wife's 03 Saturn Ion has the original battery. Going on 8 years old showing no sign of giving up. I think its lasting so long because its in the trunk. still looks new.

Last winter I changed out two batteries in a L 8000 with a 7.8L diesel. They both had the 8 punched out of them. I know they weren't changed in '08 so the had to be '98. Got 11 years out of that set. They were Exides by the way.

You are fortunate to get more than 3 years out of todays batteries.

Ya, I've read lots of battery issues and lots of battery miracles we'll call them? What I'm really interested is if the issues people had with the OEM battery went away after purchasing something aftermarket.

My OEM died deader than a doornail at 35 months. I have had a replacement Interstate on there for almost 3 years with no problem. I plan on replacing it soon with another Interstate, just so I don't get stranded. Batteries are cheap compared to breaking down on the highway.

X2, though I think my original battery lasted almost 48 months.

I occasionally test the voltage of my battery when I have the hood open just to make sure it's holding a good charge.
