Possible reason(s) for ABS light to come on?
2008, 4.2 with 30k miles. Just had new tires put on a couple weeks ago. Anyway, I've put about 4k miles on my truck in the last month. I just did about a 1000 mile round trip to DC and back. On the ride home last night, the ABS light came on. I pulled over a little while later, and when I restarted the light was off but came back on 20 mins later. Today, I drove about 100 miles before the light came on but it stayed lit the rest of the way. The brakes don't feel any different and the light would come on cruising on the highway, not when braking.
What could be the reason behind the light coming on? Sensor? Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Probably one of the three speed sensors. There is one on each front wheel and one on the rear axle. Generally, they fire a ABS light when the front ones get dirty with brake dust. And sometimes they just fail. If you can get access to a code reader that reads ABS codes it will tell you which sensor has failed.
It only affects braking at high speeds or when losing traction. Normal braking is unaffected. It can be bad wiring, corroded connections or a bad sensor.

Anyone have a pic or illustration so I know what I'm looking for? I've never checked the sensors. Thank you.
I had to have the front right speed sensor replaced at about 40K miles. Same thing, the ABS light was on. Luckily, with the extended warranty i purchased, it cost me all of 100 bucks (the deductible).

What did it cost to replace and was it easy? If it's cheap, maybe I'll do it. Otherwise, I'm still under bumper to bumper warranty and it can be done for free.
i'd have it done for free under warranty, it only took them an hour or so to do.
Did you ever get this fixed?
