Question anti freeze smell

I had my truck warming up this morning before taking my daughter to daycare. When I went out to let her get in the truck, I smelled anti freeze. I also noticed some sort of fluid on the driveway when I was backing out of my parking spot. Is the smell something to be concerned about? I am going to check the coolant level before I leave work when the engine is cold.

You have a coolant leak somewhere.

If the smell is strong inside the cab it could be the heater core. I had that happen on a 97 F150 I used to have.

Not inside, it was definitely outside the truck. I had a 93 Mustang GT that had a bad heater core so I know what that smells like.

Didn't notice any drips on the ground while I was at work. After checking it when the engine was cold the level was below the cold full line so I will be picking up some coolant and distilled water tomorrow and topping off the coolant reservoir and keeping a close eye on the level.

Buy 50/50 coolant instead of hassling with distilled water. Just make sure you get the same type that's in there.

First, what kind of engine? Secondly, did you check all of the pipes that go to the radiator and water pump? Maybe one of the compression clamps are coming off. Just do some eyeballing around.

If not, then your truck might be eating engine coolant which is bad and can lead to a dreaded hydrolock in the most in opportune time. Which, I would suggest bringing it by Ford or a good, trustworthy mechanic and have them look into it.
