Should I trade??

Hi, I havent been on here much lately but you guys know your stuff and i would like your opinion. i have a 2005 Screw FX4, with 120,000kms on it mods: 2.5 ready lift leveling kit and flowmaster cat back. i have a chance to trade straight up for this 2004 F250 Diesel screw 4x4 xlt with FX4 package also. it has 240,000kms on it with no mods, it says in the ad that the truck has no rust on it anywhere. The reason i'm looking at a superduty is because i have a 18 foot car hauler and just bought a 16 foot enclosed trailer. now the f150 can haul both of these fine i'm scared of tranny failures etc most of my loads on the car hauler are 4000+lbs plus the weight of the trailer.

Please give me your opinion on what you would do and WHY just not a one word thanks for your thoughts and info

everyone loves pics here's a couple of mine and one of his

Not a big fan base out there for the 6.0 liter Power Stroke. My only real reservation. I had no trouble at all finding a great trade deal for my 7.3L however... everyone wanted that motor BECAUSE of the 6.0...

Looking past the obvious increase of towing capacity of the super duty. consider the overall condition of the truck. Things like the the tires and the brakes. Will it be needing them anytime soon? Has he got a service history on the truck ? Has he had a programmer on it ? Ive heard of overzealous tweaking with a tuner causing almost instantaneous catostrophic transmission failure. So just be aware of what may have been done with it , and what it may need in the not so distant future. What ever you decide . Good luck J.B.

Well its an older truck, has twice the kilometers, some 04 6.0's were problematic. How often are you towing 4000 pounds on the car hauler. If you can get the history of the superduty and you know for sure that it has never been modified that would really be the deciding factor for me. But you have a truck that can pull what you need it to. Do you really NEED the higher maintenance, higher fuel cost potential money pit superduty? IMHO keep your F150, or sell it and buy something newer and lower mileage

Dont do it...

You know the record of your car and how its been taken care of. Its towing fine so why get the diesel?

If the worst case scenario is your transmission blows in the future then the 2k investment is great because now youve got a new tranny that wont go bad on you for another 150k+ miles ( and they come with warranty)

Dont gamble and get the diesel you could end up spending more than youd spend on a new tranny for the f150

BTW YOUR TRUCK IS SICKKKKKK

if you do get the 6.0 the egr block off supposedly fixes most of the 6.0 problems.

I'd keep the 150. Sure the diesle will pull it better but your truck does just fine. As 818F150 said who knows what the 6.0 is like. Just say you buy the truck for $15,000 then you have all the problems with the 6.0. I'm not exactly sure how much it is but I know it's a couple thousand. Then new tires 5-800 dollars plus other little things you may notice. I know my grandpa put 2 sets of Moog ball joints and goes through rotors like crazy on his Super Duty and it only has 90,000 miles on it.

I'd spend the $2,000 if your transmission goes and not worry about it. Probabaly be better in the long run.

Look into some custom tunes, (tow for your trailers) gotts mod if you haven't, and a better flowing muffler... bet you'll be a difference with that trailer

Thanks for all your opinions and the kind words about my truck. I decided to pass on this superduty. I'm just going to finish what i started, after X-mas i'll get some 305-65r18 bfg all terrains and an add a leaf to get some rake back in the truck so it doesn't bulldog so bad when towing. I'll get another tuner, i had an edge but needed cash awhile ago and sold it, i miss it lol

I definetly wouldn't get a 99-04 sd, the 05-newers ride much better and will turn much sharper than the 99-04
