PowerSlots

A couple years ago it seemed that powerslot rotors were the thing. Well at 72k I'm tired of my warped OEM rotors. Are the powerslots still the thing to get and what pads? Hawk's or Ford OEM's? I have been very pleased with Ford's pads, just the rotors suck.

I am just switching from factory to EBC's (slotted and dimpled rotors and green stuff pads), they are pricey but I have run them on most of my past vehicles with great results.

Baer makes some nice rotors, too, and their plus1 kit is a great value.

I've had Powerslots on the front for 2-2 1/2 yrs. The only positive to them is they aren't warped. They grate pads like mad and don't improve stopping.

My oem rotors were fine (outside of extreme dust issues), but after lots of reviews on the powerslots I'd figure I'd try them. No improvement whatsoever. None. Every pad and rotor suggestion I've read here has not worked for me, except one: Wagner Thermo Quiets, put them on the rear of our Mustang and the dust was definitely decreased by a very substantial amount. I just don't trust anyone's opinion on brakes after my experiences.

So I have a negative view on them, take it or leave it. Maybe they'll work for you, but I'd go with blanks and the Wagners. Once my current pads are shot I'll replace them with Wagners, put back on the OEM rotors and give away the Powerslots, they're junk IMO and I wouldn't feel right asking money for them.

care to mention what "every pad and rotor" consisted of? I am doing brakes soon.

After I get my paycheck, I'm going with a set of slotted Brake Performance rotors all around with an all round set of Thermo Quiet semi-metallic pads. I've heard good things from both. Getting rid of brake dust is my main goal, not neck snapping braking force.

OEM pads and rotors - horrible dusting, replaced pads at 900 miles.

Wearever Ceramics and OEM rotors - horrible dusting, replaced at 3K.

Porterfield Ceramics and OEM rotors - not as bad dusting, mostly a different color. By not as bad, I'd say 70 miles until good and dusted as opposed to 20.

Hawk Pads and OEM - ran these for maybe 100 miles, no improvement over Porterfield, sold them to a friend

Porterfield and Cryo Powerslots - same dusting. Pads were about 60% when I put these rotors on. Within a year, the pads were cracked and done.

Wearevers went back on along with the Powerslots, the pads were about 75% a year ago and now are about 50%.

Truck is an 05 and hasn't tipped 30K yet, so I don't drive it that much. To be fair I've been running ceramics with the slotted rotors so that could be an issue. I'm not a hard braker, I've gone 50-60K on pads in the past on other vehicles. On our 08 Mustang the OEM rear pads would leave a heavy black dust on the wheels within 30 miles or so. After switching to the Wagners, they dust up but it's a light gray and easy cleanup. I'd recommend them because of that, but wouldn't endorse them until I ran them on the truck first hand. Just my .02, hopefully others have better luck.
