Oil Pressure Gauge.. Bad??

So the last week or so my Oil Pressure Gauge has been sitting at 0. Sometimes if I restart truck it will come right back up to where it should be.

Oil level is fine. I do need to change, I am at like 5200 miles (35,2xx total) and will be changing filter and oil on wed.

Based on the fact the gauge shutters when you turn the key off and I have been able to drive for 30 or so miles at a time and not blow anything up I am guessing it's purely an electrical issue with the display. I am also not getting a check engine light or anything else.

So, anyway to test this? Is it possible to replace the oil pressure gauge on the cluster without replacing entire cluster?

If all the other gauges are working ok then the problem is likely the pressure switch on the engine.

Could be... I was just concerned about the fact the gauge was shuttering with power on and off.

If it works when you start it will stay working the entire time it's on, it will not suddenly stop working... If it does not work when you start it will stay off the entire time and not suddenly start working.

Anymore information about sensor location? Since my warranty is about 2 months over I guess I need to locate a Haynes manual now

Check with a mechanical gauge to see what the oil pressure is. Also check to make sure you have oil in the engine. If you have been driving it, chances are it is just a bad sending unit or something simple.

Not trying to criticize you, but driving it without knowing whether it is the gauge or not really is a stupid thing to do. If you feel like buying a new engine, its not dumb, but most people dont want to do that.

If there truly was zero oil pressure the engine would have packed in 10 minutes after starting it.

OK, but that doesn't make my statement any less true. He would have only gotten a 10 minute ride out of it then, he didn't know whether there was oil or not, he still chanced it.

First thing I did when I noticed it was stop right where I was on side of road get out and check oil level which was fine. Then when I restarted the gauge came right up to mid level. Didn't sound like there was any real issue and engine temp is fine too.

The fact that simply turning off and restarting along with the weird gauge shutter lead me to believe it was a simple issue..

yall do know that its just a dummy gauge right? that gauge automatically goes to the center. the resistor in it probably just went bad or something.

Yea, a DUMMY gauge, I guess you could say the same thing about the guy who designed that gauge. What a joke! They did a survey and ALL the people who thought that gauge was cool voted for Obummer.

It comes down to 'people like gauges' they think the lights are not enough information. Yet they don't know how to interpret the information given to them and overreact resulting in a ton of warranty and support calls.

So rather than say making gauge liner from 1-100 they make it 1-10 it reads 'low' 11-89 'ok' and 90-100 'high' basically detuning the analog to be a switch but the people that are not smart enough to read a real signal are lulled into comfort and think they have what they never really needed in the first place.
