thinking about changing to Akebono ProACTs

I have the original factory pads on my truck and can not stand the dust anymore. So I have heard alot about the ProActs and was thinking about it getting a set. Would you replace the original rotors with the pads?

thanks for any comments

That depends on how many miles on those rotor and whether you have some grooving or not. If you are still rockin' the original rotors on your '04, then it is probably time for a change. You can go to rockauto and look up some centric rotors for reliable OEM replacement rotors (I have a brand new set of their premium rotors if interested that I'll let go for cheap if interested). You can go to autoanything if you want something more fancy. I have never been a fan of turning rotors. Some people swear by it. My experience has taught me that turning rotors just leaves you with warping to deal with down the line.

I had Akebono ProACTs on my 04 4x4 for about 80,000 miles. From the first mile to the last, dust was practically nonexistent. When I took them off after 80,000 miles, there was still about half the pad left. I switched out the rears for some Hawk ceramics when I changed the rear rotors to some EBCs, looking for a change and a bit more bite to match my front BBK (APRacing). After about 2 months, I put a brand new set of Akebono PROActs back on. They are great.

Just renewed my brother's brakes on his '06 2wd. I used the Baer Plus 1 rotors up front, Baer eradispeed rotors out back, and Akebono ProACT Ceramics all the way around - good stopping power, and very, very low dust. My bro's in heaven.

Good luck... Keep us posted.
