Help - Truck Needs New Throttle Body - Fighting To Get Expired Warranty To Cover It
Here's a list of the complaints I've made about the truck (there's old threads to dig up about my complaints too) and the date/mileage when it was taken to the dealership. I have all the paperwork. At issues is a starting/stalling problem I've had with my truck since it was practically new. Now I finally see that it all probably boils down to a wonky throttle body from the beginning. The truck currently has 49,000 miles on it and has been out of warranty since August of 2008. My 3 years was up way before my 36,000 miles. I feel that this should be covered under warranty since I've been complaining about it since the truck had 2,000 miles. The service didn't think so, naturally. He said if it was a few months he could have helped me out, but not 2 years. He was very helpful in giving me the number to Ford customer service though. I have to call them tomorrow. Do you guys think I have any hope at all? Maybe they would at least cover some of the bill? Any help/suggestions on what to say/what department to talk to??
Thanks guys!
2005 Ford F150 Complaint History
9/20/2005 – 2,102 miles
• Customer states on occasion truck will idle rough, enough to see windshield wipers vibrate
• Customer states intermittent delay in throttle
11/25/2005 – 4,916 miles
• Customer states periodically truck won’t turn over
2/14/2006 – 9,607 miles
• Customer states engine stalls intermittently on start-up. Problem occurs both hot and cold
1/23/2007 – 21,057 miles
• Customer states engine stalls on start-up
8/8/2007 – 25,319 miles
• Customer states while driving for a while customer will shut off truck, go to restart and will get nothing
2/15/2008 – 30,395 miles
• Customer states trouble starting vehicle
After warranty expired I stopped bringing truck to Ford. Would have been charged $89.95 and given the same run-around. “There’s nothing wrong,” “We couldn’t find anything,” “Could not duplicate.”

• Truck stalls and check engine light remains on. Brought to Ford and told truck needs new throttle body, at a cost of $550+ tax (includes parts and labor). I specifically brought it to Ford with the intention of fighting the warranty issue. I could probably get it repaired cheaper somewhere else, but then I'd owe Ford $89 for the diagnosis, probably negating any savings of taking it to a new shop. The throttle body cost would definitely sting, but it won't put me in the poor house. It's more a principal thing for me now. I've been complaining about this for over 5 years with no resolution.
Thanks guys!

To be quite honest, I don't think Ford's CRC is going to help. Unfortunately, they only slightly care about customers who are still under warranty. I've dealt with them in the past and they are awful. What they will end up telling you after you've wasted ten minutes on the phone will be "Bring it back to your dealer for diagnostics and talk to your dealer about a solution."
I'm sorry you're having this issue. I had a faulty TB as well on my truck, dealer replaced it under warranty about a year ago. No issues since. Hope you get this resolved.

Well I just got off the phone with Ford customer service and they gave me a case number. So now it goes to the service manager at my dealership. They were very friendly on the phone, but couldn't promise me I'd get any kind of resolution. Plus they said it could take up to 4 business days, and seeing as how I'm supposed to be going to Orlando Wednesday night for the UCF game, that really sucks. Oh well... now I just have to hope for the best. I'm pretty confident that with all the documentation of the problem I've had that I at least have a pretty strong case. I'd be happy if they would at least pay for half of the repair.

Well I got it fixed and got it back. After going back and forth with the dealership and Ford, I got $200 bucks knocked off the repair bill. Cost me more than I wanted, but less than what they wanted, so I guess we both won. I'm pretty happy with the resolution considering the warranty expired 2 years ago and I haven't brought it in there since it had 30,000 miles.

I had the same issues and finally threw a CEL....got the "could not duplicate" and "nothing wrong" from numerous people. Diagnosed it myself and it was my TPS sensor broke on the throttle body. Cleaned the throttle body and luckily caught it soon enough that damage was not not to my throttle body so it didn't need replacing. I'm thinking this is a problem with these trucks as numerous people have reported same issues/problems with no CEL and the vehicle starting up afterwards like nothing happened. Glad you got it resolved.
