Removing Chrome

I can't stand the look of the guady chrome mirror caps or handle covers any longer. I've tried a hair dryer and it won't do the job of heating the 3M enough. I was told the heat gun could possibly bubble the paint as my mirrors and handles are PTM underneath. What are the secrets to removing these items?

just pull em off theyll brake before you break the handle..but if you leave it out in the direct sun and try that will make it easier but heat gun will take the cake....the handle piece pull on the opposite side it opens

3m makes an adhesive remover. Wally World and Autozone carry it. It works pretty well but you have to let it sit and soak in a bit first.

How safe is this adhesive remover for paint though? Plus how would you get it back in behind all the areas.

I'll pass on the "just pull on it" method.

I've used it on my truck paint and had no issues when replacing my flares and also on fender badges. Read the can I think it is safe for paint but you might want to test it out on a small area just to be safe. It is in a spray can so you should be able to shoot it back there but I imagine it would get all over.

i just pulled mine off one day and it leaves the adhesive behind but it can be removed with an eraser wheel or something afterwards
