That's no surprise, That's been standard fare for GM for the last 35 years at least. Must buy what Kia rejects.

What are you studying at Riddle? I'm about to graduate with an Aerospace ops degree from another college.

If you have a fat insurance settlement to live off of, why are you letting your father pay your vehicle insurance when it sounds like you could and should be paying it yourself ?
The deal was If I pay for the truck he pays the insurance so it came to be. Ain't a soul here could say they wouldn't take that. And if you say you'd tell him no. Your either A. a Liar or B. stupid (This is the only thing either of my parents pay for.) I spend 50 grand a year on school he can spend 2 grand on insurance.

OK, Pretty much what I figured.
Oh, I am not either, A-a liar or B- stupid !! And Yes, I would say No !! I have always paid my own way 100% since age 18. At age 49 I don't think I would stop now. Thats the way my generation was raised.

sweet.....got a job yet? It will be slim pickens for a couple years but after that, hiring is suppose to take off (no pun intended). I was trying to military becuase I could not finance the flight hours, but that didn't make it so I ended up going ops.

hahah no. I won't have the hours built up to qualify for prob another 3 or 4 years. After I graduate I'm gonna get on with the university as a CFI so I can build hours.

I'm in my thirties, but my father raised me the same way. When I was 16 I worked part time while in high school and paid my own insurance and drove his old work truck around. If the truck broke, parts came out MY pocket. He also refused to co-sign on my first vehicle when I was 18 not to be a jerk, but for me to learn responsibility and appreciate what I have. Now looking back, I understand what he was doing. You appreciate things more when YOU pay your own way, and don't have "a deal".

That's BS man, my insurance is $600/yr on my truck. It's always been dirt cheap for me, no wrecks or tickets here either. Call up your company and tell them to lower your rate or take your business elsewhere.

I think when a 20 year old walks in dealership with 30 grand cash for a truck. (That I earned my damn self) the lessons been taught pretty well. My parents taught me to save everything. So I did and I rewarded myself. I'm sorry that your dad didn't help you. That's him. I'm fortunate to have a dad that does. Not like I ask him too. He just does. I can have as many "deals" as my folks wanna throw my way. Don't mean this in a snob way. Hope you don't take it that way.

So many differant factors go into the cost of an individuals insurance premium. Driver age, credit history, location, driving history, vehicle age etc. etc. It can get rather confusing.
Here in NH. I pay $800 per year for a commercial policy on my truck.

Im sorry...but I am somewhat confused. The man (and I do mean grown man) saved up his money, provides his own way through school, and you still find a way to down his situation? Or did you just chime in because you wanted to praise yourself? Many of us (yes, I am one of them) have been on our own since 18 or earlier, and have done things others havent. But lets not compare and judge others just because they didnt grow up exactly like we did. Sounds like your message is better aimed at the countless numbers of silver-spoon-fed 20-something year olds still living at home as their mom cooks and cleans and their dad maintains the house!
___

MRLSU,

I want to know if you have any development on what youre doing with the truck or if you have changed your mind at all.

I'm 30 now, but back when I was in school and driving my Ranger, my insurance was like $300/yr or something ridiculously low like that. It went up when I got the 150.

Yea see I'm not even 21 yet (November) I know insurance premiums go down considerably at 25. I run full coverage everything on my truck and I don't know if being SC adds extra cost on the tail but that could be a factor.
As far as the trade/sale goes. I called my ins. agent today and got a quote on a 08 cts-v. Gonna run (with them) an extra $600 a year was essentially like $55 more a month than the truck. I was also quoted on a 04 cobra it was gonna be another $79 a month, so you do the math. I'm gonna do like NCSU said and call around tomorrow get quoted on the truck and some other rides. I'll keep ya'll posted.
