Plug change tally
Plug change tally
Finally did the plugs on the truck yesterday (05 Screw, 5.4). Broke 3 of 8. Warmed the engine up first and used the summit carb cleaner and soaked them. Luckily the ones that broke were easily accessable. Used the tool mentioned in the how to post annd it worked great.
The ones that were difficult to remove looked thike they had rust on them and were in pretty bad shape.
I swapped them out for the champion 1 piece design plugs and slapped some nickel/graphite antisieze on them.
The plug swap made a major difference in the smoothness of the engine at idle.
Thanks to all the guys here that post their experiences and information on the "how to's". It really helps to hit something like this with a game plan in your head before you start.

I only have 2600 miles on my '05, but I've thought about having the plug change done in the next few years while the mechanics who work on these trucks day-in and day-out are most familiar with performing the repair.

Will do. Already running smoother and mileage has increased. But it is not surprising. Putting new plugs in any machine will increase the efficiency.
Average milage before was 14.7 with my regular commute. So far it is reading 15.2. I will report back after I have burned through several tanks.
