painting chrome step bars????

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has even taking their stock chrome step bars and had them painted or powdercoated? I was even thinking of having the spray in bedliner stuff sprayed on them to match my bed. I have been looking for a set of black ones for my 07 supercab but thought about what if I could have them PTM?

Any ideas....

personal experience, painting chrome can be done, but its a PITA. spraying paint on chrome and it will just wash of.

Scratch it up with sand paper and paint it will hold a little better but not that good.

Really, the only time I even seen paint stick to a chrome surface was when it was extensively prepared and worked with.

Add in the fact that step bars are
1)down low
2)stepped on a lot
3) hit by rocks
4)drug on accident

it would be really hard to keep them looking good.

Can it be done? likely but I personally don't think it would be worth it.

Tell you what, why don;t you Pm me if you have a set that will fit a 04-08 F-150 XLT super cab and give me a price, I might buy them off you if they fit.

You can use an angled grinder with scuff pad and get it scuffed up pretty good in short order. A small can of Herculiner and their mini-roller should give you what you want.

Thanks for the tips. Is that Herculiner kinda shiny or is it pretty dull in color?
