Can a key be made from VIN?

I work in downtown St Louis, last Saturday I went to walk down the street for linch and the Security guard asked me to lock the gate to the parking lot. (our lot is fenced and gated, about 3 or so blocks from the plant) The guard did not lock the gate that morning, the usual gaurd does, but he was off. He then informed me that someone had come ontot eh lot and was checking out one of the trucks on the lot. I ask him which one? He turns one of the cameras right onto my truck. I asked him what they were looking at and he said thay were looking through the windshield, like they were looking at the VIN. When I got home I took out all of my fishing rods out of the back, pulled the 2 meter radio out, and took out my streamlight and charger, I also pulled any paperwork out that would have any info on it, and stopped carrying my gun in the console. Finally to my question, What were they doing? Is it still possible to make a key from the VIN?

welll it depends. Normally you go to the dealership and you say you lost all your keys, they will require you to show ID and registration and title... But if the guy has someone who works at the dealership then I suppose he could, that kinda information is stored in the computer... So you probably did the right thing!... I hope your stuff will be safe!!

edit: wow look what I just found http://www.keysfast.info/ thats some messed up business if you ask me

Yes you can get a key made from the vin. I locked my keys in my truck across from a dealer and I walked in with my vin and they cut a key for me. It wasnt a chipped key just a regular one. I dont remember if they even verified if I was the owner.

Yea. Well the non chipped key will just work in the door. So I guess they figured that you where fine sine you would just be able to steal everything in the truck and not the actual truck haha.

To answer this tho. Yes you will be able to get a key made by your vin. But it will only work on your door until they actually come to the truck with their STAR computer (the ford Computer that programs everything only available to Ford dealers) and tap into the PATS system to active a new key to start your truck.

If you just locked them in your truck, then the non chipped one will at least get you in

Yep, I locked my self out of my truck while it was running. Called the dealer where I bought it from and they cut a key and had a shop guy run it out to me.
