im stumped and need some help pleeeeeeaaassseeeee!!!!
ok i have a 05 f150 5.4 3v my problem is when i floor it it gets to around 3500rpm and it starts like spark knocking on the driver side like pinging ticking or making a noise close to that and it threw these codes p0316-p0306-p0171 ok so ive replaced all plugs with updated ones and replaced coil on #6 cylinder. when it gets around the 4k rpm to 5krpm it spark knocks and pings like crazy. drives fine when your not under a load or full throttle. what else could it be?
P0316 is misfire detected on start up, and you have 171 which is a lean code.
Check for vac leaks starting with the PCV elbow. It may also be an injector issue, search on here for the recall on the 05 injectors. They can stick in either position, on or off.
I'm sure someone else will chime in here soon.

i was just looking into the cam phaser problems. im not sure if that would be it or not. how could i trouble shoot from here? it doesnt make any noise untill 3500rpm or higher and only under a load. in park or nuetral its real hard to get it to do it. but in drive i can punch it and it will start around 3500. and it starts loosing power to when it makes the noise.
Would the cam phaser cause or show up as the lean code? (That is a question, not a challenge)
My thought is an air leak to get the misfire on start up and the 171, but you are like most others on here blue jay (smarter than me)
Or how about a fuel delivery issue, plugged filter or stuck injector. If it is starved for fuel on one cylinder it could bd detonating.
Maybe pull that #6 plug again and check the color.

I'm not that knowledgeable about the phasers either, it's just obvious something is not telling it to add fuel or it is getting too much air for the fuel capibilities. That causes it to lean out.

I agree!
My thought was if it was a timing issue, like cam phaser, you would not get the ping just a drop off in power. Where an air leak would/could cause both the ping and misfire. Maybe plug color would tell a better story.
But I'm guessing too.

i had the phaser issue. drive the truck, get it hot, then sit in park and take the rpms to 1200. if you have a phaser issue you will know it when it starts pinging @ 1200. dont ask me y 1200rpm. it just was for me.
