Bed Choice

Been looking for a Supercrew to purchase for the last 4 months or so. I'm very picky and at times indecisive. I've been looking for a 06 or 07 Supercrew Long Bed. I recently found a 07 short bed that is sharp and caught my eye. I think the 6.5 is really sharp looking and could be useful since I will have a toolbox. How many of you with the 5.5' bed wish you would have gone with the 6.5? How often have you needed that extra foot?

Truck I'm questioning

I have a Super Crew with the 5'5" bed, and while I do sometimes wish I had the longer bed, I can usually get by. I don't have a toolbox though, instead I have a folding tonneau.

What about picking up one of those bed extenders? That would give you the extra foot when you need it.

on my 07 5'.5" and never missed the extra foot on my 10 don't even need it. had a deep tool box on the 07 and use the **** out of it. only time i needed more room was when i had to haul a Budd's hog down to the shop for repairs and then all i did was turn the bike a little corner to corner and let it set on the gate! plus you will losses some turning radius with the long bed i would bet!

to me, 5.5 seemed too small, and 8 foot (ex-cab) while ideal would make it impossible to fit in the garage, not to mention the turning radius. 6.5 seemed to be the best compromise, although the lack of a factory bed extender for any bed but the 5.5 is disappointing for the earlier models.

I have never needed anything more than my 5.5' bed, however if I needed to have a bed mounted tool box, I would most definitely want the 6.5' bed.

I went from a 8 ft bed ex. cab with tool box to the 5.5 screw sans box, and really don't miss it to much I don't care for hauling lumber with the tail gate down, but 95% of the time I don't miss it.

Thanks, It makes me sick to think with all the money I have in it. I could buy this new truck cash, but I have a 1 off truck that was built not bought to boot.

That's all what I figured. I've thought about it and if i need to I can just hook a trailer up. This truck is loaded to the hilt so I presume it is the Luxury Package FX4. Every option except a sunroof which I can live with out. Trying to get it for 25000 OTD.

I went with the flat bed option cause I can pull goose necksand fifth wheel stuff! Plus here where men work out of their trucks it is the only way to go!

I wish I had the longer bed, I just prefer the look of it better now.

I've got the 5 1/2' bed and a toolbox..... never really needed the 6 1/2' bed.

That truck is almost just like mine and it's definitely an FX4 luxury. If it were me the first thing I would do is take off the chrome mirror caps and door handle covers. No sense in hiding the PTM mirror caps/handles! The only difference between that one and mine that I can see is the 20" wheels. I bought mine new two years ago and paid just under $30k.

I have done some minor furniture hauling for friends/family and I have a retractable cover. I filled the entire bed with furniture. Couldnt imagine doing that with a foot less of space (technically its more cubic feet, which can make a difference in getting mulch, dirt, etc.). If youre going to use it as a truck, then I suggest getting the longer bed.

Some one once told me "its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it" but I'm pretty sure he was talking about something else.
I went with the 6.5 and I love it. IMO it fits the truck nicely, short beds look too.... well short I guess.
List out all the pros and cons of the 6.5 bed and then the answer will hit you square in the forehead. You will know what to get.
