CV axle replacement question

Well found out the boot on both axles is ripped and the dealer is saying its not covered under my warranty due to the leveling kit I have. So Im going to replace them myself. Im going to replace the entire halfshaft rather than just the boot.

So my question is...What all do I have to take off to get the axle out. Just wondering what I can get away with not taking off. Is it necessary to take the knuckle completely off? I thought I read somewhere that you can get away with unbolting the sway bar and you dont even have to take the wheel off. I obviously would take the wheel off but if I can get it out real easy let me know. Thanks guys.

That get's you close (but leave the hub actuators in). Then unbolt the half shaft flange from the differential housing. It should slide out.

The author of the above thread also has this poted: http://files.me.com/pagorman/mgi8ul which is quite sexy!

Swapped out the CV's today, took me 4 hours doing it myself with my girlfriend holding things here and there. It is a bit of a pain by yourself but it can be done. Had to use a wrench on the 6 bolts which sucked, wanted to use an impact but the bolts are 12 point bolts and didnt have a socket for the impact that was 12 point. Thats what took up most of the time, but all is back together and runs great. Changed the oil while I was getting dirty anyway.

And if anyone wants to know you do have to unbolt the tie rod and the upper control arm in order to get it out, its a tight fit and you have to work to get it out.
