Another Bilstein 5100 question(s)

Hello Everyone,

I used the search feature (here and in the suspension section), and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
Sorry for the redundancy of this post, but if you could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

I am going to replace the shocks on my 06 Mark LT 4WD. I am going for the Bilstien 5100's set at 2" for the Front, and the 5100's for the rear also.
They best price I found was at suspensioconnection.com: $ 456.26 delivered to CA Good price? The P/N's they show are F4-BE5-C293-TO for the Front, and F4-BE5-C294-TO for the rears. The Bilstein web site shows the P/N's to be BE5-C298 for the Fronts, and BE5-C299 for the rears. Anyone know why they are different?

Also I tow a boat, so I do not want the rear to be lowerer than the front when I am attached to the trailer. I would like to steer clear of the Add-A-Leafs, so do you recommend replacing the Stock Block, if so what size should I replace it with.

As always thanks for the help!

MC

The BE5-C298 and BE5-C299, are leveling shocks. Do you want that or just OEM replacements?

Also, if the MarkLT setup is the same as the F150, you can get them from shock warehouse for cheaper plus I think they have a f150oline discount to take some more off.

What are your opinions on the 5100 vs. the Ranch Quick Lift? I know the Rancho's cost more, but they have a $100.00 rebat, so it brings the price within $ 65.00
Also If I get the 2" setting on either one, what should I do to the back to keep the Factory Rake (For towing)

I personally have never owned either set, but based off what I have read and seen I would go with the Bilstein 5100s. As for the rear if you tow/haul a lot add a leaf, if not go with a 3" block.

AAL (add a leaf) or a set of taller blocks.

Thanks Chris. I think I am going to go with the Rancho's. How much Lift did you end up getting after install? Also did you install yourself or have a shop install them?

Makes me wonder how much business Bilstein is losing due to the backorder.

I've had the leveling 5100's on my 5.4 Screw for over 60K. I would say they are stiffer than I would like for every day driving.....on both ends. When empty, the rear end can slide around on pavement stutters just as bad as the stock junk did. The lift in front is nice but the loss of downtravel is part of what makes the ride feel stiff. When I tow or have weight in the back they are great with excellent control.

One of the rears blew recently. Lucky for me the Bilstein warehouse is only a few hours away so I called warranty. They shipped me a new one the next day and charged me for half of it. When I returned the bad one they credited back the charge. I've never had to use a lifetime warranty before but Bilstein stands behind it.

I drive so many miles and the roads in SoCal are so bad I'll be in the market for a new ride soon. With 136K on this 2004 FX4 it's time. If the truck was newer and I was going to keep it I'd put a King kit on it. The money gets the higher tech valving that rides nice on the street and takes the off road in stride.
