truck just started shaking???

hey guys, was drinving into work today doing about 80Km...all of a sudden the truck started shaking as if the drive shaft was out of balance or the tires were really out of balance...i slowed down and it seemed to worsen but when i accelerated again to reproduce the problem it wouldn't do it again????very strange...it hasen't ever done this before...its not a misfire or tires out of balance...no grinding just a hell of a lot of vibration/shaking!

any advice?!
thanks

How many miles/km are on your truck? Failing wheel bearings, perhaps failing tie rod ends as well. Shocks could play a part, but I doubt it in this case.

What year truck. The 04s were notorious for problems with front calipers and also the e-brake causing vibration problems due to rubbing and building up heat. Fix for the e-brake was to back them off a hair, while the fix for the front calipers was replacement of calipers and rotors. Both of these problems would cause severe vibration.

Sounds like it might be an air issue, check your air filter and see if it is dirty or blocked up.

I got the same problem, and I'm pretty sure it's the e-brake, because it only happens when I actually use it. I think it doesn't disengage all the way.

my truck is a 2006 screw 4x4...4.6l...it is possible its the e-brake...i used it the night before when dropping my boat in the river....i put on the e-brake but it didn't seem to engage...so i just released it and took off home. funny thing is, is that i was like 15 minutes into my ride to work before it actually started shaking...i drove it home tonight and there were no issuses..?

i guess i'll see if it happens again and go from there!

yup most likely the e-brake, it will engage and stick, then when you drive it will heat up and cause the vibes. When I redid my brakes I took apart the offending arms and sanded them smooth and coated them with grease. No more problems.

Just an FYI, you do not have to use the e-brake to have the problem. I never used mine on my 04, but still had the problem. All it took to fix it was to adjust it a little.

have you had your plugs replaced recently? in the last 6 months? i had this exact same issue and it was intermittent, i could have swore it was a drivetrain/tranny problem. i was dead wrong because i got the infamous p010X misfire code. i had just had my plugs done and i neglected the coils.

i changed the coils at a cost of 400$ and a few beers. it still did it. so my next option was to check the misfiring plug/s. i get my extension and i go to remove the plug and the plug was not tight in the head. i slowly turned the socket clockwise until i felt the socket seat on the plug and i did about 3 or 4 turns before i actually felt the plug finally tighten into the block.

at this point i backed the plug out and there was nothing left but procelain on the tip.

before you invest any money into it i would get it acting up and hold it there until it throws you some kind of code. then you will have a starting point.
