my truck threw a code at me, help please

Ok folks, I have a 2004 FX4, 5.4L. Today I started the truck and it showed me a lil wrench on the dash all lit up. The truck felt like it was in limp mode, idled fine but really choppy acceleration. I checked the code on my Edge CS and it told me it was P2106 Throttle Actuator Control System - Forced Limited Power.

I shut the truck off and restarted it and everything is fine. Shut it off again, still fine.

My questions are is this a sign of a part wearing out that should be replaced? Is it hard to replace for a non mechanic? is it expensive to replace (part and/or labor)? Is the code a result of another problem I dont know about? And lastly, is it likely that it was just a glitch and I should just go on my merry way?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

That's a fault with the electronic throttle assembly. It happens periodically. It's most likely just a glitch. Your truck isn't a Toyota - electronic throttle problems default to CLOSED!

its probably your TPS (throttle position sensor) my 05 5.4 FX4 started doing that and went on for a few months. Eventually the truck started dying while I was driving it, would just shut everything down and limp mode would kick in. Start it back up and sounded like it was flooded. I threw the same code, TPS sensor replaced, de-carbed throttle body and changed fuel filter just to be safe....no problems since (4-5 months)

If it starts happening a lot have the TPS valve changed and throttle body cleaned. Don't wait too long as you could damage the throttle body and have to buy a new one, lot more expensive then the TPS sensor (sensor is like $20 bucks)

Where are you all finding a TPS sensor for $20? I looked at my local autoparts store and they want like $60, same with Tasca.

Mine did this as a warning that the trottle body needed cleaning.
