Question Constant Sputtering 5.4 in hot weather.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone was having the same problem I am with my truck. It's an 04 F150 FX4, performance wise I got a K&N Cold Air kit, edge evolution programmer and flowmaster exhaust. Truck has 111,000 miles on original plugs and coils (I know they should be replaced but not sure if they are the problem)

During the Winter my truck will run perfect but as soon as Summer roles around and it gets hot outside the little "WRENCH" light on the dash will be constantly coming up and the truck either starts sputtering or the truck will just straight up RANDOMLY shut of while I'm driving, It seems to be mostly happening when I let off the throttle though.

Luckily I got the Edge Evolution and can clear out the codes every time this happens and just restart it but it gets to be a pain.

Last summer I replaced the throttle body (which comes with new sensors) ran fine for 2 weeks then started again. This time I took it to Ford and shelved out some more money for them to replace the throttle body. It ran fine for 2 weeks then again started to mess up. Nobody can diagnose whats causing this!!

The Edge always reads something to the extent of "Throttle Position Sensor A/B voltage correlation" and also another one bout throttle being stuck open or closed and limited throttle.

If anyone has any info or leads on this please please please help me, it is driving me nuts!!

do you think there's a problem with a mass air flow sensor? sometimes the after-market intake systems will have too much oil on the filter which can in turn effect the mass air flow sensor...

replace the foot pedal position sensor, it's probibly seeing diffrent readings than what it's suppose to and therefore going to failsafe...just a guess though.

I've removed the Edge before and still have same problem.
The mass airflow sensor could be a possibility!
I do feel the most likely guess would be the pedal sensor or possibly spark plugs (but Idk why the code would read about tps voltage correlation stuff) however I can't find the pedal sensor anywhere for sale.

It's called a "throttle position sensor" and Rock Auto lists it. $39.99 for a Motorcraft.

Glc- that throttle position sensor is the one that goes on the throttle body not the pedal sensor, I've gone through about 4 of those. If I put a new one on it works for 2 weeks then starts acting up again. Thanks for your input though

Maybe they sell the complete assy. , you might be better of getting it from a junk yard salvage truck or something

time to change your plugs also and get a new one getting one from a salvage yard doesn't make any sense at 39.95

You think the plugs are causing it?

With 111k, I'd sure put that at the top of the suspect list along with a fouled MAF from that oiled filter.

Hmmmm....

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...2106-code.html

Note temperature correlation.

Also note that you may have a related issue - Edge + CAI + '04 F150 5.4 3V = potential lean conditions...

OP - just how long has this been going on? You posted in that old thread about this...

For chits & giggles remove Edge and replace stock intake. Reboot PCM. Ya never know ...

Yes p2106 code and preventive maintenance? Well that kinda goes out the window when Ford says the spark plugs will last 100k and a change is around $250 giving no plugs break

I don't have the OEM intake, it came with K&N kit, I bought MAF sensor specific cleaner and cleaned it and still does it.

Its been going on for 2 summers now (how many I've had the truck)
Took it to Ford and they said it was throttle body so replaced it and still does it so I'm lost.
