Tray area under cup holders

Hello everyone,

I did some searches on this topic and haven't been able to find anything. Maybe its due to my noobness on not calling the dash piece the proper name or inability to properly search.
If this has been discussed elsewhere please point me in that direction. I have checked some online retailers and haven't been able to locate what I am looking for either.

So here is my question:
On my 2007 F150 there is a Tray (currently not used for really anything) underneath the cup holders. (refer to pic and I drew a box around it)
The picture is one I just grabbed online real fast and edited for reference

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Does anyone know of an after market piece that could replace that into maybe a retractable drawer that is pushed on to open kinda like the cup holders?

The reason I ask, is if such an item exists, I would like to use it to hold my Ipod touch since I can control it with my head unit. This way its out of sight but in a central location.

I don't like the tray as if I step on it, stuff likes to fall out. I don't like the GB since I have tons of stuff in there already. The cable that hooks my Ipod touch to head unit isn't long enough to go down to the floor, under the carpet and back up to arm rest compartment.

I have used the tray on top of the dash but thats in plain sight for everyone and the sun...

Thanks for any help in advance.

why not keep your ipod in your center console or in your glove box? that way it is out of sight. just my two cents.

The GB has quite a bit of stuff in there and if I needed to grab the Ipod that is more leaning over than I like to do while driving.

The cable from the clarion head unit to the Ipod isnt long enough to go from the head unit down to the floor, under the carpet, up under the seats into the center arm rest.

If my truck had the center console unit like the fx/lariat series I could do that as it wouldnt have to go all the way to the floor.. My XLT doesnt.

So I thought I would ask if anyone had seen such an item. It was worth a shot.

You could get a cheap case for your iPod, then put velcro on the case and inside that cubby. Pop your iPod in the case, stick it in there, and it won't fly out.
