I used PB Blaster and it worked fine to dissolve the carbon. I'm with Metcalfe on not wanting to give Ford another penny of my hard-earned cash to fix their lousy design.

BTW - I soaked 1/2 of mine overnight and 1/2 for about one hour the next day. The only one that broke was one that had soaked overnight.
