Need purchasing help please!

Helllo all,
Brand new to these forums, so please be gentle! I used to own a 97 F-150 but got rid of it due to a long commute. For the last 3 years I have been driving a car but am ready to get back into a F-150! I've been looking at used ones and have found a couple that I like...I'm just concerned about all the miles that are on each of them. Should I be concerned? Unfortunately they are both from dealers, so I'm not guaranteed to know the exact type of driving that each have had on them. Are they asking a fair price? What are your thoughts?? ANY help would be great!

I'd avoid the 2006. That YM still has the multi piece spark plugs that can be extremely expensive if they break off in the head...which happens far too common. The 2008 should have the newer 1 piece plugs. Both YM 5.4's are subject to cam phaser issues and that's also not a cheap fix, just so you're aware. The 2008 shows to be a former company owned truck so who knows how it was maintained. Drive it and pay particular attention to any kind of noise like a knock coming from the engine. If you hear one, keep looking.

Both are overpriced for the mileage.

i'm with wes, you can't unwind mileage, even if the powertrain is still strong, it's all the soft parts that suffer.

Man you guys are fast with the response; It's much appreciated! Looks like I'll continue my searching. Assuming that I want to continue looking for a F-150 FX4, is there a certain year I should search for that may have less concerns as far as repairs go? Unfortunately I'm on a bit of a budget...that's why I've been looking into some of these "newer" trucks that do have a lot of miles...probably not the best way to go about it. I like the look of the 2005 and up FX4's, but I'm not sure I can afford find one in my price range with few miles.

The 2004 through mid 2008 5.4 3 valve engines have quite a few issues. I would not buy one without having the seller put new spark plugs in, and if the cam phasers are making noise, take a pass. You want a quiet engine with a fresh set of plugs, then it will run forever. The 05's had fuel injector issues, may be best to stay away.
