I've got a friend who wants me to paint his truck's frame a glossy fire engine red... but his truck is black. I guess it wouldn't look that bad.

Honestly, the only beef I have with Ford is their lack of paint on unseen surfaces! The edges of the hood on my 2007, the parts that you dont see when the hood is closed is mostly primer, along with the edges of both front fenders below the hood! You spend alot of $$$ for a truck! There is absolutely no reason for that! I don't care how much they want to cut costs! That goes up my ****!

I was also going to comment on the fact that frames dont rust through in normal life span of the vehicle. I still see 76 F100s driving through town. 34 years old and still goin strong? whats your definition of a "normal" life span.

and I live in Northern Michigan

And that's my point exactly -- there are TONS of 30+ year old trucks around and I suspect the vast majority of them have never had their frames painted.

Is there the occassional frame that rusts out? Sure. But I would say the vast majority of trucks (regardless of where they are) survive for many years with no maintenance to speak of performed on their frames.

Paint it with some John Deere Blitz Black. That paint is a heck of a lot more durable than rustoleoum.

I agree with you. But I think hes doing it for more looks than anything. A nice black frame looks alot better than a rusty frame even if it isnt rusted through.

I dont think that these frames would rust through in our life time anyway.
