3 valve junk?

A guy i work with has an 04 5.4 3 valve, just had a new motor put in, a 5.4 jasper motor. He was told that Ford has no faith in the 3 valve in the 04's. I had my phasers rollers lifters and cams replaced about a year ago and since have had no issues other than a minor ticking on start up. Now to me if they have no faith in a motor they designed why don't they offer to have something done, a recall or something. I mean with the amount of folks on here, and those not there are a ton of these trucks out there. He took his truck to a FORD dealer and they wouldn't even put a Ford motor in it....something is up with this deal

^ I see no reason why you needed new cams.

The 3 valve 5.4's are really picky about things that you put in them. They only like 2 kinds of spark plugs, Purolator type filters, and a certain oil weight. Using 5w30 oil can damage the VCT system that so many have had. As long as you're very careful with the products you put in the engine, you won't have any problems. God forbid you put a Fram oil filter on it. You won't do that again after doing a quick search on them.

It's more of an issue with proper maintenance than reckless engineering. Learn to read a manual on what you spent lots of money on, and take care of it.

Dang guys mine has been taken care of, every 5,000 with mobil 1 5w-20 full synthetic and either a WIX filter or Mobil 1. The shop put all new guts in mine while in the process of fixing the cam phasers. For some reason his warrentee wouldn't cover any work to the old motor but mine covered all the interal parts. plus they added 50,000 miles to the warentee on the motor.

I just would have thought that a Ford dealer would have put a Ford motor back in and not a jasper

^ That extreme of a make over is very uncommon to begin with, and I really think he pocketed some cash on that "changing the cams" situation. Just my .02

They did put a Ford motor back in there.
Ford farms out a lot of their reman parts.

Well with a warentee paying for all the work and only a 100 dollar deductible he could have talked me into anything cause 100 bucks is all it would cost me for anything......so for 100 i got new plugs wires lifters cam phasers....not a bad deal

I wonder if your dealer checked the muffler bearing and changed out the blinker fluid after he changed the plug wires

I use motorcraft filter and 5w20 oil whenever I change oil. I figure you cant go wrong with ford stuff......Right???
