RE: Which vehicle?

New guy here so please bear with me . . .

I've been a die-hard import owner for nearly 20 years now . . . started with Subarus . . . owned a small Nissan pick-up before they became known as the Frontiers . . . wife drives a Subaru . . . and I owned a Celica before I bought my Honda Accord.

My current "work and play" vehicle is a 2000 Toyota 4Runner which I'm giving some serious thought to selling since I could use a pick-up to haul stuff a lot more than I could use a SUV to haul people.

In any case, if I go with a F-150 this would be a first for me since I never personally owned a Ford, haven't owned a domestic vehicle since a lemon-of-a-Jeep Wrangler that I briefly owned right after college and have never had a full size pick-up.

So here's my question (yeah, I sometimes get a bit long-winded instead of getting right to the point): Which is the better deal here in your own mind?

A 2006 FX-4 with about 40K on the odometer with an asking price of $21K . . . or a 2008 XLT with 74K on the odomoter with an asking price of $19K.

Thanks for your opinions . . . I keep wondering if it is better to get a newer vehicle with higher mileage or an older vehicle with fewer miles. My planned use is to use this occasionally . . . hauling firewood, hauling lumber for the house renovation, hauling my sleds around, hauling the ATV, hauling camping gear around, etc. . . . basically this will be my work and play vehicle . . . the Accord will still be my daily driver as I have a 66-mile round commute to work.

First thing I recommend is driving both. Used truck values are through the roof right now. I had two super crews XLT's before I moved my current FX4 and while both are fine trucks I really do feel more comfortable in the FX4. It could be the nice softer seats though. I do believe that 74k on an 08 is more than I would accept on a used vehicle.

I'm partial to the fx4 trim with sport buckets up front and body colored bumpers. A friend of mine has a 01 Taco, 4x4, ext cab. The f150 is a completely different truck.

A brand new XLT stickers for only $24K after rebates... and you can probably get it for less...

why buy a 3 year old truck with 74K miles to only save a few grand?

We found the same thing when looking at Escapes for my wife... we ended up buying a new one for only a few grand more than what the used were selling for.

Just my opinion...

Welcome to Ford!

FX4 especially cause you say you are going to be camping and hauling fire wood and quads and things like that, and if you go get wood up in the mountains and it is rainy or going camping and like to go high up in the mountians i would go FX4, just cause it is a two year older truck doesn't mean that it is bad, i go off of miles and the way the truck has been drivin...

I bought my 05 FX4 loaded except leather and moonroof 3 years ago with 38K miles and paid $22,900 given the prices have rebounded since then I would think you could get the FX4 for under $18,500...I would def go with the FX4 from those 2

and I'll let it slide that you're a firefighter

I bought my XLT Supercab 4x4 NEW loaded with everything for $23000 after rebates. The sticker was in the high $30's.

Get a new one.
