seat belt alarm - with a twist
seat belt alarm - with a twist
i have an 04 f150 lariat. love the truck. however, lately the seat belt alarm/reminder has been acting up. it thinks i am not wearing my seat belt even if i am. i know the standard procedure for disabling the alarm but it doesnt work. the truck thinks the seat belt is not attached even when it is, so the buckling/unbuckling nine times is not registering with the computer/whatever.
is there any other way to disable the reminder? or is sensor an easy fix?
thanks.

You've got a bad switch in the latch mechanism or a loose connection in the wiring to that switch. Check the connections on the bottom of the seat, maybe one's come loose. While it might be a pain in the butt to figure out (not sure how accessible the wiring is for the seat), you can probably find out which leads go to the switch. Just wire a jumper in so that the seat belt alarm always see's that the seat belt is buckled.
tried the seat belt from teh passenger seat. never thoguht of htat before. but made no difference.
looked under the seat, all the plugs seem to be plugged in. more wires and plugs under there than you can shake a stick at. have to get out the wiring diagrams. try to figure out exactly which plug/wires i need to bypass.
damned thing is annoyin me to no end.

The owner's manual should tell you how to disable the Belt Reminder feature. It was on page 117 in mine.
But that requires you buckle/unbuckle the seat belt a certain number of times so it might not work since it sounds like yours isn't registering as buckling. It's worth a shot though.
