Quick Question

I have an XLT, and practically turning it into an FX4. I was wondering I had a dealership check some prices on some OEM flares for me (smooth) and they said that the flares can't be mounted on an XLT because the brackets are special or something. Is this correct or could I some how make a quick fix to get them to work......? THX

You have just met a parts guy who isn't very bright or is full of BS, take your choice. The fenders are all the same on the different models, why wouldn't the flares fit? Go back and ask him that.

Ya but an XLT doesnt some standard with any flares. That why I am wondering because he said that the flares have two bolts on the bottom and then some kind of special snaps that go around the inner fender well, and that it would be insanly hard to make the holes for them work.

I have a couple of flares from a larait a friend gave me and was just looking at them they have a bunch of clips sticking out around the flare.Larait fenders comes pre drilled with holes for the clips your XLT doesn't have them. I'll bet you could find some aftermarket ones that would work and look factory. Or make a templet and try drilling the holes.

those look pretty close to stock fx4 and should work since they are pretty much designed for trucks that dont currently have them...

The parts guy is correct and you're wrong. The flares are mounted into predrilled holes into the fenders on FX4s.

I bought my OEM style flares off of ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...item20b1a0f800
It was a different seller and I paid less but that was 4-5 years ago. They use 3M tape to mount to the outside of the fender an four screws under the lip.
