Smile Truck won't Start

Hi Everyone, New to this forum. Have a 2004 F-150 (old body style) Supercab V-6 5-spd manual tranny, 78,000 miles. Great truck, no previous problems until today. Went out to start vehicle to leave home and the vehicle would not start. The key will turn freely, the motor will not turn over. Battery seems to be fine, lights, etc. seem to work. Strange clicking under dash like ticking clock, theft light on instrumental panel blinks dimly. Any ideas? Thanks Jay

Solinoid on the fire wall?
Does it click only when you try to start it?
Try jump starting it?
Battery seems fine-was it tested?

You can try jumping it across the relay. Make SURE it's in neutral and put a jumper wire across the 2 big terminals in the relay with the key in the on position. If it fires up then it's probably the relay.

First make sure all your connections are clean and tight.

These are general guesses, could use a tad more info.

Good luck.

I am having the same problems with an 05 f150, i tilted the steering wheel down hard and it made a rapid 5 tone chiming sound then it will start.
Since then i have played with it. With the steering wheel tilted all the way up, i can turn the key on but not turn the motor untill about 5 seconds........the turn the rest of the way to crank it, and NOTHING happens. I can move the steering wheel up and down till i hear the chiming sound, then it cranks fine. ?????????????
No idea yet what it is, but im fraid its gonna get worse.
Hope this will get yours running.

I'd say it's the module behind the driver's seat... it's the body control module... they are sometimes flakey... I think it's made by Bosch.

Thanks for the assistance. I decided to start with testing the battery and that was the problem. It was dead. Replaced it with new battery and everything is working fine. Thanks for the prompt help. Jay

Your problem sounds like one of the connectors in the colom has wiggled loose. Take off the trim on the steering colom and check all the plugs. Some times a single wire can come out of the connector-push them all back in one at a time.
Good luck....and don't hijack some body elses thread.

I have an 04 and i'm having similar issues, although with mine, there is a lot of clicking and it's almost like the ignition is flickering on and off but if i put the key in and turn it nothing, the radio and air will stay on and everything. Is there any way for a dealership to test the BCM?
