What is Kelly Blue Book smokin?

Just for giggles I looked up the value of my truck on KBB. 08 FX4 Screw 6.5', 25kmi and all the appropriate check boxes checked; $28,000 trade in, $33,000 private party and $36,000 suggested retail!

Sooooo...... While my truck wasn't for sale a few minutes ago, considering the above, first $33,000 takes it!

Must be the guy inputting their numbers has a qualifying inllness permitting the use of medicinal herbal smoke filled supplements!

The used truck market is way up right now, my truck is worth the same as I paid for it when I bought it. I paid 17k with 27k miles and now its got 66k miles and much more wear and tear. But when I went to the Ford Dealership they wanted to take it off my hands so bad and put me in something new cause the salesmen said that any used F-150 with under 75k sells in about under a week, he said its un believable the amount of people that want to get into a used one.

I think my truck is worth the same as or more than what it was when I bought it over a year ago with 24k less miles.

I paid $7k under book value then.

I think it's because our trucks look so good, where as the 09+ look like crap! IMHO of course, but it's been a couple years and that new grill-headlight setup hasn't grown on me at all.....

I paid 10K back in 2008 for mine and the trade-in now is 12K for it. I'm not going to sell my truck any time soon, but I thought it was pretty neat.

That's awesome! I just ran my truck and the trade in value is almost the same as what I paid for it in 08, $21k. I paid $10k less than the sticker because the dealers were "giving away" the 08s to make room for the 09s. It was hard to find my truck in 08 because every dealer didn't have any but I happened to find one large dealer 40 min from home that had about 30+ to choose from.

Dealers don't use KBB, they use NADA Black to appraise a vehicle - and if the market is volatile they will use auction sheets. KBB is always a bit behind the market.

I looked my '02 up on KBB for an idea what to ask for it. I think they were real low. NADA was ab out $2k over, and all the one for sale I've found they are asking about 3-4K over the KBB price.

Yeah the demand for used trucks has grown immensely in the past few years. When on the hunt I went to one place and a guy was buying it as I got there. Called another, someone was in the process of paying. Another place, it was online, sold by the time I got there. Finally I found one posted on craigslist and called within a few hours of the posting to check it out... lol guy never used craigslist before so I think he will have high opinions of it now!

Supply and Demand.

When I bought a truck 4 years ago it was a different game, buyers market. Now the sellers have the upper hand with the higher prices.

If NADA values are correct then my 05 only depreciated $1K per year.

My truck is still worth $23,000 on KBB(private) and $18,000(trade in) and I bought it for $19,000 2 years ago. Not too shabby. haha. Only if I didn't have so many memories with it already. As well as the time and effort.
