Thoughts on these fans

I am considering doing the e-fan upgrade for a little more power and to help with the A/C in the Carolina heat. I will likely get the DC control FK50, but the fans I am unsure about. Money is a big factor as to whether I do this or not. I came accross these fans. I think I would get 2 of them. Anyone use them? Thoughts?

Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks!

Most of the ones I have found are used. I am weary about buying used auto parts. The few new ones that I have found are around $400. Seems expensive. I know that many timesyou get what you pay for. What is the minimum CFM rating that our trucks need. I figured 5000CFM would be adequatae.

Also are the Markviii fans variable speed?

i have a used one in mine and also have another used fan in a chevy pickup with no problems

its a two speed fan, low speed is more then enough to cool my truck with ac on high idling for half an hour in direct sunlight on a 105* day, and not get over 180*

Az,
Where did you buy your fans from? I see a bunch of ebay ads for them ranging from 50-100 used.

It makes me feel a bit better that you have some used ones and have had no issues. Also what control are you using?

Also my battery and alternator are stock and original. Do those need to be upgraded. I have been doing some research on the Markviii and it looks llike it pulls 40A. Seems like a lot of juice.

Dont know if you are still considering this, but eff those ebay fans. They are cheap for a reason.

For cheaper you can go pull a Mark VIII. You will not need to upgrade your alternator as it produces a full charge at idle speed. The fan can pull some serious current, but the DC Fk-50 is a "soft start" controller so it wont produce the surge of some others.

THe only time I would think about upgrading your charging system is if you have a serious sound system or if you run underdrive pulleys. Other than that, you can get the whole setup for under $200 (150 for the controller, 50 for the fan). And yes, the controller is expensive, but if you read all the posts, that is what fails on bad systems, not the fan.

Like Flash said, do some research and you'll find stories of people who've had their controllers fry on them, leading to overheating of the truck. Some people have had their wiring catch on fire, some have had their radiator rust out due to the stray current coming from the efans.

Be smart about it and you should be fine, but don't cheap out on a system that keeps the truck running.
