Check Fuelcap

I have a check fuelcap message on my 2004 supercrew. Anyone know what the problem might be? I have taken it off and tightened it multiple times but it keeps coming back.

It may take a few tanks or about 100 miles to reset. That happened with my Cavalier years ago. I took it off tightened it, but after about 100 miles it went off by itself

I think you might have a bad fuel cap. Sorry, I know I'm new here but I couldn't resist.

Give it some miles to reset. If it doesn't reset in a few days it's probably a bad cap.

The Pcm won't run the test if there is more than 3/4 or less then 1/4 fuel in the tank. It has to go through a few drive cycles with out an issue. Or it could be a major leak in the vapor recovery system.

My fuel cap failed Tx state inspection. Got a new one and it passed.

Since you have a gryphon, why dont you reseat your cap, clear the code and then see if it comes back verses waiting on it to clear itself. After clearing the code if it comes back on, go get a new cap.

I have cleared it about 10 times now. It doesnt come back on while the truck is running. only after I have restarted it.

Check the o-ring in the cap. Then start checking the vac lines on the tank and vapor system, maybe the charcoal canister. The canister vent solinoid being stuck open might give you the same code.

Is there a code? If so what is it?
