Painting a truck toolbox
I was trying to pull a stump out with a chain and POP. Chain snapped and came back and hit my tailgate.
Beware of chains. We do the same thing at work when we pull bushes and you always hear chain stories but knock on wood, nothing bad has ever happened. At the house we are doing now, an F450 broke a 40,000 tow strap trying to pull a bush. You just can't win using either one, chain=unsafe but effective and recovery/tow strap=safe, lightweight but weak.
The thing is I've had ropes break on me and they've never done damage to my truck or anyone around my truck. They may not be as effective but they'll usually get the job done one way or another.
When we pull we always put a towel or old flannel shirt on the chain so if it breaks it doesn't fly back and hit the truck, works great. I guess just that little weight helps to change the direction of the broken strap or chain.
Seeing how you are local, if you want to get your toolbox professionally painted, contact yellow stx, here is his galleries https://www.f150online.com/forums/me...tx-albums.html he does excellent work and hes right out in brunstucky. He painted my mirror caps and fender flares.
Just finished putting the box back on and washing the truck. I also took the STX stickers off of the bed. I ended up using gloss black tractor and implement enamel to paint the toolbox with. Let me know what you think.

I've heard about the towel trick too. Never tried it yet though.
