I have a 05 FX4 Crew. Has the Original General 255/70r/17.
Looking for a little bigger when these are done. Going with the AS 2.5 leveling kit.
I'm looking at the General Grabber HTS. Seem to get good reviews and definitely in my price range.
Will the 285's be a big difference to justify the higher price? They also jump me from a P tire to the LT. I will not be doing any off roading but live in snow country in NY.
Thoughts?

Whats an estimate of your spending limit? I had a set of 265 grabbers on my truck when I first got my leveling kit. Great tires, I loved them a lot, but was ready for more aggressive tire. Now I have Cooper Discoverer STT's got them for about $214 a tire.
I have 295/70/17 and I love them. You'd have plenty of room for them if you put on the 2.5" AS. I'm running them with the 1.5". Hell, you could go with 35s with the 2.5".
About 35"s it all depends. If you keep the stock wheel or purchase an aftermarket wheel with similar specs as stock wheel such as backspacing and offset then 35"s will be fine. If you purchase an aftermarket wheel that has more backspacing (pushing the tire further out away from the truck) then 35"s will dang near tear your inner fender wells out. My 295s rub with no trimming necessary.
Watson did the 265's with the lift seem like enough tire, to fill the wheel well area or did you wish you went bigger?
I'm not going off road, no dirt roads, no hauling or towing. So what would be the advantage for me to get a aggressive tire? Are they louder? Gas mileage? Do they just look meaner?

I get 275/70/17 Goodyear wrangler AT/S (The tires were awesome)no lift, used to have 245/70/17 (oem)
I like it but I really wanted 285/70/75 but my stock rims din't work, I need new rims but money is a little short now lol.!
They are great in any weather. I will put them on again when I wear these out!

3" front, 1" rear. Stock 18's. I think they are 8" wide. 285/75/R18 as I said above. Only rub on the inside of the fender at full lock going in reverse. No problem at full lock going forward.
Running the stock 17 in wheels with a 265 70 firestone MTR i love them i had the 285 70 in the AT's but went i little smaller with the MTR's they fill the void fine for me i have no lift and the 285's in the MTR's rubbed a bit in the front but the AT's didn't so keep that in mind that the extra tread will make the 285 MTR a little bit taller than that...

As for tire, its all personal opinion. I went with the MT's mostly just for the looks. They do hum a bit, but are still pretty new and quite. AT's are a great tread pattern but just don't look as aggressive. For the most part an AT will probably weigh slightly less than an MT, but I'm sure the difference isn't too great.
Yeah the MT's aren't near as good for the snow as the ATs. I still have my stock tires and rims so if it gets bad enough around here a quick trick to my shop will fix all my problems.
