Outside Air Temp. on Cluster Question?
Outside Air Temp. on Cluster Question?
Hello everyone I'm new to this so if anyone has any helpful tips or if I'm doing anything wrong let me know.
I have a 2005 XL and just recently bought a cluster with a tach. It can out of a 04 XLT with outside air temperature and heading indicator. I did manage to get the sensor that replaces the dummy behind the grill. I hooked everything up and the cluster works great but I have a flat line on the temp. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? One other question after doing some reading on other forums. The key/door chime also doesn't work, from my understanding going to the dealship and getting it flash will fix my problem. Is this correct or should i not worry any. I lucked out the miles reading are within a mile or two. I got it out of a salvage yard for $65.00
Thanks,
Jon

That is the compass that leads to the gauges. I also thought it housed the thermometer but I'm not 100% on that.
There is another current thread in the 2004-2008 section discussing the door chime being disabled. Maybe want to look at the pics and make sure the previous owner didn't do this.

I do believe you are correct about the compass but the temp is behind the grill. I have read alot of other forums and 90% sure getting it flashed will fix everything programmed "as built". Any other suggesting will be helpful! Thank you for letting me know about the mirror because I wasnt aware of it till you said something.

I did that flash on purpose after I decided that the lack of wiring and having to add tiny pins to those small connectors on the cluster was just too much work for knowing the outside temperature. Compass I really don't need anyway, since I have a GPS. Like you, I really just wanted a tach. So the XLT cluster got flashed to my XL VIN so I didn't have to look at the little minus symbols where the temp / heading should be.
Temp Gauge
Hey all, I purchased an 05 FX4 supercrew with 55k, about a month ago, and I noticed my temp gauge is reading about 10-12 degrees below what the actual temp is... any suggestions ? ? Thanx... Other than that, my truck couldn't be better.... so glad I bought an F150 as opposed to a Sierra/Silverado I was originally lookin for

yes you are correct about not having the wires in the loom. I got ahold of the complete wiring diagram for my year and the wire are left out of the loomwire but are in the front of the grill. I did take it to the dealer to have them flash it with my vin "as built". I stll have the flat lines for the temp? and no chimes/dome light. I had it flash to get rid of the flat line and really dont mind not having no chime but thought this would fix it? Did this fix these problem for you Sburn?
BeelowRadar if you look in you owners manal there is a section for adjusting your compass i dont know if this has anything to do with your temp but also try what city of champs suggested with a buddies sensor or go to a salvage yard they gave me one for free.

Well, somthing is not right. In my case, the, flashing the cluster with the as-built data made the minus sign go away. I don't recall any chime/dome issues.
Not sure if you were watching the flashing process, but there should have been a step where they entered in several rows of numbers. Those numbers get sent from Ford's as-built data. If they just used the "module replacement" function, the program just sucked the incorrect data off of the cluster and then returned it. IF you try again, make sure they "fake" out ths software by unplugging the cluster. The sofware will complain about not being able to find a cluster, and it should offer to pull the as-built from Ford. It may not exactly by a "by-the-book" procedure for them.
