Bilstein Rocks!!!

Thought I'd share this. I've got Bilstein HD's on my truck with roughly 90K on them. They're starting to soften up which is really no surprise with the plowing and hauling I do with my truck. I emailed Bilstein to see if they thought the struts/shocks should be starting to show signs of wear after 90K. They responded with an offer to replace all 4 so that I can send them back for evaluation. The catch, not really much of one, is I pay a 50% deposit (plus shipping) on the 4 and if they deem them defective they refund my deposit. If they are ok, I keep my new replacements and only pay the 50%.

Bilstein clearly stand behind their product.

Keep this in mind if you find yours are wearing out. Just make sure you have your proof of purchase.

Ya it is. I figured they'd just tell me that the shocks were just wearing out and I was S.O.L.

What's the warrenty on them? 90K is pretty good miles for a set of shocks even with no towing or plowing

This is what they have listed on their website. I have to thank the good folks at Shockwarehouse too, they looked up my 3 plus year old order and hooked me up with a new copy of my sales receipt.

GENERAL WARRANTY DETAILS
ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America warrants its gas pressure shock absorbers against defects in workmanship and materials for as long as you, the original purchaser, own your car.

If at any time after purchase or installation, the shock malfunctions and Bilstein determines it to be defective, we will either replace it or repair it.

There are only a few specific exceptions to this warranty. They include:

Original equipment shock absorbers - which are warrantied by the original equipment manufacturer.
Improper installation,
Racing, driving competition or off-road use,
Use on modified or other than Bilstein-recommended vehicles.
Bent or broken Rods showing abuse or abnormal wear
Bilstein's liability for a defective shock absorber is limited to replacement of shock with a new or reconditioned Bilstein shock absorber. Rubber mounting hardware and labor charges are not covered by the warranty.

Note: Other exclusions may or may not apply in certain states or rare circumstances. Proof of purchase is required to process warranty.

For additional information about our warranty, please contact our Warranty Hotline by phone at 1(800) 370-9522 or email at warranty@bilstein.com.

I would think the catch is not having shocks on the trucks until they're sent back.

Nope, no catch. Worst case I'm out my 50% deposit and they call them paid in full. Or I get this refunded. My new units are enroute.

Something I find very interesting is the price I'm paying for 50% is less then half of what dealers are selling these for.

...and how do you know this? So SVT2205, they sent you the replacement shocks before you took the old ones off? Or did your truck sit with no shocks until the news arrived? I am really curious about this, but the warranty sounds like a good one.

I paid the 50% deposit and they sent me the new units. The deal is you swap them out, ship them back and they determine if they were defective. Their customer service rep evaluated my old shocks/struts within a day of when they received them. They refunded my deposit. So there was no catch. My truck was not out of service or anything.

hollamby, just go to their website and look for warranty. There's an email address there.

I want to give kudo's to the folks at shockwarehouse.com, they kindly looked up my 2007 order and provided means for me to print out a new copy of my receipt.

That's good to hear that a company actually honors their warranty and stands behind their products. This got me convinced that I will get Bilsteins when I have some extra money to spend.

Sorry didn't read that correctly. That is a great deal. I have HDs on mine too. I think mine are starting to give.

What did you notice when you felt they were wearing out?

I ordered mine from shockswarehouse.com too but they totally botched my order and I didn't get a receipt. They charged me twice and sent one set. Then they told me that they didn't have a record of it and I got a free set of shocks when my bank statement clearly showed 2 charges. Anyways I'm not trying to gripe about them. That's done with. I just need record/receipt.

Glad you were able to claim your warranty and not get charged. Bilstein is a good company.

That's good to know because I'm planning on driving on my Bilsteins for a long time and lot of miles.
