Rear cat delete and muffler

I know this has been asked before but how exactly do I connect the pipes after i cut the cats out? Do I need a 12" pipe in length and 2.5" in widthe on each side or what? Can I clamp it or does it need to be welded?
My muffler question is almost the same. Can I just buy a muffler and just cut the old one out and clamp that bad boy up there?

I have a stock exhaust on my 05 5.4L XLT SCAB if that helps
Thanks again!!!!
