Engine Problem

I have a 2004 F150 5.4 3v that is having an engine issue. 60K miles

Every now and then driving, it will make a chug, chug, chug sound like its ready to die. I let off of the gas and hit the gas again, and it goes away. This happened 3 times the last month. It doesn't happen often, but when it does happen it sounds aweful. It does not throw a check engine light.

I just changed my plugs to autolites about 3 weeks ago. It never made that noise before the plug change - would that cause it?

I run Motocraft syn and before that I used to run Mobil 1 syn. Also, the engine burns oil. I went in for my last oil change (I hate changing oil myself - I'd rather pay $10 for someone to do it), and was down 2 quarts. ugh.

The cam phasers are getting louder and I plan on changing them within a few weeks.

Any ideas?

Possibly a dirty air filter that needs to be replaced...or a dirty MAF that needs to be cleaned out.

I personally would clean those Autolite plugs OUT too. Trash can is a good placed to store 'em. Some people get by with using 'em, some don't. That's your choice.
