re-gear help

re-gear help

I posted this about a week ago in the drivetrain forum, but haven't gotten any responses. So im reposting it in the 04-08 forum. Hopefully i get better results.

Im considering getting my truck regeared to compensate for the 35s on my leveled 2006 FX4 and im looking for advice.

Is it worth the money? I cant do it myself, so id have to pay installation.

I already have the factory limited slip, so would it really be beneficial to upgrade to a new lsd or selectable locker?

Does doing this void the warranty, or will the dealer not be able to tell?

Does it cause any harm to the truck or increase wear on the rest of the driveline?

BTW- Im not going to get larger tires any time soon, so im thinking 4.56 would be the best gear ratio, as I had the 3.73 stock.

Also, slightly off topic, but does anybody near Oklahoma City have 4.56 gears installed in their truck?

Go with 4:10 gears, you will notice the difference.

If you intend to stick with 35s, I would do it. It would be cheaper to drop down to 33s. If you do re-gear, I would upgrade the limited slip. The Ford unit isn't that stout and can be easily over powered by tires that large. I'd run 4.56s with 35s.

Ok, thanks. Would I be able to feel a big difference in the truck? Its hard to justify $1500 for only a small increase in power,

You'll never have the power you had when the truck was sitting on stock rubber, but re-gearing it to run in the same rpm at the same speeds is worth it in my opinion. I think you'll be happy with it.

A cheaper alternative is to get 33's and forget regearing if you have 3.73s. If you're getting 35"s for looks, I think you're making a mistake. If you need it for ground clearance, you probably need a real suspension lift.

I already have the 35s and dont want to downgrade to 33s, My truck already feels like stock because of the gryphon programmer, true duals, and cai, so would the gears make it perform like a truck with the factory tires and the programmer, duals, and cai?

^ If you want a substantial difference, then go with the 4:56 gears. Be prepared for a loss in mpg though.

The difference between 3.73 and 4.10 is so slim that it really is not worth the regear. 4.56 is a big jump and would be worth the money but is it really necessary to do that much??? It all depends on what you do with your truck. Get the tires and try it first. Then make your decision on what to do.
