Not a touchy subject at all - but one that has been discussed to death - fer over a decade - on this site. And the answer is still the same: It's Crap.

Lame, XPerties.. very lame recruitment drive. And I am still trying to find any contributory factual information in yer post ... I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and keep looking though ...lol.

Seafoam works great in motorcycles that have sit for awhile. Works well enough sometimes you don't even have to take the carb apart for a clean. So it's not totally crap. It has uses.

Hello.

This is true.

As a parts cleaner - it's fine.

As an M/C tank cleaner, also fine.

And yes, if an M/C has been neglected and you really don't want to diassemble and clean all those carbs, indeed folks have had some success in getting enough of the crud out via running a tank or two of this stuff throught the system, then clean fuel and an oil change.

Expedient as a 'first-try' method? Yes. The 'best' method? Probably not, but if it works, okay.

But - on an F150, with cats, O2's and a very clean-burning engine? I would not risk it. And if you were/are running good quality gas and keeping up yer maintenance, it's totally unnecessary.

It cleaned up 4 carbs on a GL1100 Goldwing good enough that I didn't have to pull them off and disassemble. I did eventually have to replace the tank because it was so rusted. But to initially get the bike running it worked wonders.

Also worked well dumping a bit down each intake manifold to clean up valve deposits. Plus we didn't have any mosquitoes around the house for about a month.

The stuff will work wonders on 2strokes that have sit for extended periods of time and won't start due to varnish. Of course it's easier just to pull the carb of most 2strokes and clean it first.

I just felt the blanket statement like "the stuff is crap" was misleading.

Seafoam was very popular and used by what seemed to be many people in many different applications 4 or 5 years ago when I researching it. Not sure if it's as widely used now days or not. The people who do use it swear by it more than not.

Well said, sir.

I love this part: "Plus we didn't have any mosquitoes around the house for about a month."

I've heard good things about Seafoam over the past few years from different automotive and motorcycle forums. This is actually the first forum I've run across that has bad things to say about it and totally against using it.
That being said, I went against the grain and tried it with my truck. (I changed the filter beforehand as well).
I poured 5oz into the brake booster line and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Took it for a drive and had some (not a LOT) of smoke from the tailpipe. Drove about 5 miles. Took it to the gas station and filled up and added a full can to the tank as well. Just pulling up to the pump at the gas station I could tell it was idling REMARKABLY better....could barely tell it was running. Pulling the trailer this morning seemed a little easier as well....could just be my imagination though.
I'm hoping for improved mileage after changing the filter and running the Seafoam through the intake. We'll see. So far I'm pleased with the outcome.

Glad you are pleased, but I feel a lot safer taking mine over to the dealer and getting a BG job done.

Having been in both situations, I feel better doing it at home.
