Thanks for any input
$14.4K might be retail to a private party. Figure dealer trade is gonna be something like $8-10K on the low end, maybe $12K if you twist their arms and show that you're ready to buy something from them in exchange.

The value of these trucks is crap 'cause there's so many of them out there. When you're figuring what your truck is worth, you're going against all the other private party/trade in trucks out there, plus the trucks that the dealer could buy at an auction.

Additionally, modifications add little to no value to your truck. If anything, they could decrease the value; if I'm a potential buyer and see you've modified your truck, I don't know about the quality of the parts installed or the quality of the work done. I could be buying someone else's problem child for all I know. You'd come out better returning it to stock and selling the aftermarket parts.

pretty close values IMO

I know it's painful to acknowledge, but these trucks just don't hold their value once they are 2+ yrs old. There are just too many of them on the roads

especially with those 09/10 models in the picture. The 11's are about to hit the streets as well. so if you plan on selling her, I suggest you bit the bullet now. your value will only get worse in a few months.

It is the honest truth, hard to stomach. I traded my 02 GMC Sierra SLT (basically an XLT) with 110K for my new 08 F-150 XL. They gave me 6K for the GMC in December 08. I paid 18K cash over that for the F-150, which had been on the lot for 18 months... so 24K total. That was 10K under sticker. I would guess trade for my 08 is about 19K right now with 20,000 miles. I think it has held it's value better because it was on the lot for such a long time, and when I bought it they had 09s on the lot, but not near the factory rebate so I went with the 08, plus the 08 was more my pocketbook's ballpark and had nearly everything I wanted.

now, i did do some poking around on KC craigslist and cars.com for the dealers and the prices are about the same as here 12-16k for the same truck on average retail. so the blue book numbers you put up are not to be found unless the truck is beat to ****.

no, i just think the subject might be trying to convince him or stear him toward asking lower for his truck than he should. I just found it wierd that were so close and the kbb was so differnt. I guess basically he should have just looked around his local craigslist and dealers to see what there going for in his area and go from there.

Yeah, thats the goal. It is weird, and sad that KBB is so messed up, has been for years and people in the business every day don't go by it. My numbers were off my head in 10 seconds based on the hands I have on the economy right now. It will get better some day, but will be a while.

you guys do realize that KBB is a worthless overinflated pricing guide right?

Banks and other lenders don't even use KBB. They use Nada or Edmunds. Compare the valuations between KBB and Nada. There is usually at least a $1,000 difference.

I know my local Credit Union will only loan to within 95% of Nada values. KBB is a tool for sellers, and screw-job for buyers. many people don't realize it's values are over-inflated, so if KBB says $15,000...they figure it's right. Ever wonder why the Dealerships push KBB pricing so hard?

I'm not trying to screw anybody over, or "trick" them into settling on a lower sale price.

Just a heads up to expect alot lower price. You can wish in 1 hand...and see what fills the other hand. Shoot for the moon, but be happy if you get into Orbit

That KBB "retail" is for vehicles that are in excellent condition and need nothing. The reason that there is such a difference is that KBB is assuming that the dealer is going to spend quite a bit of money getting it to that condition. Very rarely is a vehicle sold for the KBB retail price, unless it is perfect.

I totally realize, Tylus. That is what I was trying to communicate in my last post.

The reason why you also don't see KBB prices is the economy, freeky.
