CARBON FIBER for door panels, dash, etc. by 3M

Has anyone tried using this Carbon Fiber Film made by 3m? I could see this being used for door panels, dash panels etc. What do you guys think?

Interesting site http://www.carbonfiberfilm.com/ more videos there.

I've seen it used on BMW's and thought about it's application in our trucks, but it just didn't sit right with me. I like it, but I would imagine it would get very tacky looking very quickly with too much applied and unfortunately the trim pieces I had in mind in our trucks are very large.

Why???

If you just like the looks, ok... that's up to you...
(I think its ugly)

The purpose of carbon fiber is to make lightweight panels. Simply sticking a carbon fiber graphic on an existing panel is pointless. (actually worse than pointless since it would add weight)

well here's a link to the BMW thread where the guy used the CF fabric. Like I said, it turned out well but the trim pieces in BMW's are smaller and look more tasteful than say, wrapping the center dash in an F150.

Like I said, cool in a BMW, probably not so much in a Ford.

Many of the trim pieces are replica carbon fiber in the FX4s. I like it. So much so I put on replica fiber carbon flares.

Looks pretty cool, I wonder if it would look better than the woodgrain in the lariat....

I think it would easily look better than the woodgrain in a black-interior Lariat, but definitely not in a neutral/tan-interior Lariat.

My problem is that I own an FX4 which already has the faux-carbon fiber trim. The fabric looks more realistic, but I just can't picture it in the truck...

I'm with you on this. I'd like to do it as well as I have the black interior and think it would look good. Not really all that crazy about the silver "poor try" at fake carbon fiber I have now. I would also like it to go around my chrome gear shift as the chrome is sometimes blinding. I thought about doing this and selling to folks. Anyway, let me know if you find anything else out.

I've got some things to try out with this stuff. Motorcycle parts I was looking at having powder coated that would look good like that. Might have to order some up and get a heat gun. Maybe play with truck parts if it works out good.
