I've searched and searched here and can't find anyone with a similar concern to mine, perhaps I'm wording my search incorrectly.
At any rate, lately as I've been driving I notice during heavy accel (Merging onto a higway for instance) at about 30-40 mph, my truck will misfire badly with an occasional flashing MIL, at times it's actually backfired. Yesterday I was able to get the MIL to stay on long enough to get a code out of it. Cylinders 1,5, and 7 are misfiring and 3 is dropping off a little during a power balance test.
My plan today is to replace the number one coil and see if that helps clear it up any, but I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and knew of a fix for it. I had a friend with a similar concern on his truck and he had injectors and cats replaced and he still has the same problem.
Sorry for the first post nightmare, but I can't remember my old username or which email address I used to register. Whoops.
Thanks,
Ty

The COPs almost never go bad on these things, but of course, does not mean yours hasn't. How many miles since fuel filter change, how many miles on the plugs, and have you ever cleaned the MAF or throttle body?

I only have 25k on the truck, fuel filter was changed at around 17k miles, oil is changed every 3k, air filter was changed around 15k, don't know that I've ever had the MAF cleaned, never touched the throttle body either.Originally Posted by Bluejay

I'm worried is a VCT issue or a problem with the phasers (Heard of a few guys who have had that issue), or maybe even a converter (Which are impossible to get at this point, 3-4 month back order).
Changing the first coil didn't solve any of the problems, still runs like junk, misfires when I try to accelerate most of the time, still coding for misfire across the whole bank.
Appreciate the ideas thought, thanks.

I have the same problem on my 06 with 58k. I plan on changing the plugs at 60k and hopefully that solves that...I did change my fuel filter and that didn't help. My warranty is good till 75k so the dealer would be next, even though they "couldn't replicate the problem"BS the first time I took it in.
Why don't you take it to the dealer if you only have 25k?

Sounds like you have the same problem I had. Needed new sparkplugs. Mine would misfire really bad merging into highway traffic. Never threw a hard code though so I when I took it to the dealership I had to ask them to look deeper when they said they test drove it and couldn't replicate the problem. They replaced all 8 with none broken, updated the PCM, and no more misfire.
I'm out of warranty by time. April 9th actually (Of course all the problems started on the 10th)
I swapped out all the spark plugs on bank 1 and it seems to have cleared up, the plugs were beat up. I plan on doing the bank 2 tomorrow, ran out of time today. Plus I kinda wanted to see how it runs tonight after I did the one side.
I also brain farted and put the wrong coil on cylinder one (idiot) so I swapped that out as well, everything seems to be better.

Update:
Replaced all 8 spark plugs with new (revised) plugs and the truck runs 90% better. Still bogs down every once in awhile, especially when it's cold. CEL light up a few days ago finally got a chance to scan it and I need a new cat. Fortunately im still covered under an emissions warranty and the dealer I use likes me. Cat arrived today, dropping the truck off tomorrow to get it put on and all should be fine (Finally).
In case some folks are still running the stock plugs, when I replaced the 8 in my truck I went to the parts counter and found theres a revision for the stock plug. Same model number but there is much more diode exposed on the newer plugs. Don't know what this gets me exactly, but they look like they would fire much better.

i have a 2007 ford f150 i bought it about 8 months ago and it has been a great truck however i have had an issue and i was wondering if anyone knew what it could be so ill try to explain it the best i can. so ill be driving and when i hit about 50 to 55 miles an hour and my truck will shift down into overdrive and my rpms will drop to about 1200 at this point when i try to accelerate my truck will start jolting on me and the only way i can get it back to normal is by flooring it. now what puzzles me about it is i have had this problem before and i changed my fuel filter and got new fuel and the problem went away for about 6 months well recently i fueld up and started driving again and instantly the problem came back so my thinking is it is bad fuel but im not sure i think spark plugs but the truck idles great and runs great it only does it at what seems like highway speed. i would appreciate any input possible thank nick.

ok here it is, changed plugs wouldnt start. loaded with fuel, changed coils and injectors, started but sounded like it ran on 4 cyl. pulled plugs and drivers side bamk was fouled pretty bad. another 100 in plugs, changed them and ran great for about 2 min and started to load up. tokk for a quick jount and it was just like before. drivers bank is loading up and fouling. not sure if its spark or fuel since i changed injestors, coils and plugs. also changed the fpdm since it was split. only thing i did other than that was unplug battery and remove the pcm to get at the broken plug ANY IDEAS

Are you throwing any codes? You say it comes back when you floor it. Does it also seem normal when initally start it and it's cold? Possibly an O2 sensor is bad and reading lean so the engine is adding fuel. When you go Wide Open Throttle, the computer will go to open loop and not care what the O2 sensor says.
You really need some live data to determine what the computer is seeing and why it's responding the way it is. Otherwise you are throwing parts at it.
