Had a Wreck Last Night

Hydroplaned doing 60 on the highway, tried to avoid hitting another car that was also hydroplaning, spun 5 times but was stopped when the rear passenger side of the bumper on my 06 STX hit the median wall. I expected serious damage. The bumber was smashed in on the passenger side, some scuff and minor dent to the very far rear fender. The bumper bulged up and into the tailgate slightly, tailgate was fine till I tried to open it, it opened fine until halfway down it contacted the bent bumper popped up and out hitting my leg pretty hard. I put it back on and locked it. I expected a total loss but the truck drives fine.

My concern is the frame. I'm taking it in to have it checked out tomorrow but wanted some feedback. Do you think with this minor damage to the bumper it could have damaged the frame? The truck drove fine and everything. I'm supposed to pull a trailer to Abilene tomorrow and just want the shop to tell me if the truck is ok for the trip. I'm hoping the damage is only cosmetic and can wait till Monday. I'll post pictures soon.

You got lucky. We saw a new Ram that spun out and took out a light pole on st rt 70. It crushed the whole side of the bed past fixing.

Sorry about the accident but at least it didn't roll over. Truck look's fairly decent considering what happened and as long as you're not pulling anything too heavy I would roll with it. Good idea to get it up on a rack and do an inspection though.

Glad you're OK. Don't think you have any frame damage.

doesnt look all that bad. are your tires pretty low, or was there just lots of water on the road?

Huge puddle on the highway, every car that hit it spun out. Eventually a fire truck came and blocked the puddle.

Glad to see your okay. I would highly doubt you have any frame damage. I got rear ended by a tractor trailer in my old truck and it was fine minus the bumper and it made it really hard to get my spare tire out. ruined the way for the stick thing to spin it out.

I would imagine your frame is fine. I got rearended a couple years ago and I didnt have any frame damage. BUT.... I would def get it checked by a trustworthy mechanic
