Wow, thats alot of cutting. Did you do that to keep the look? I have seen alot of people just mounting it flush with the radiator, which is what I was thinking of doing to free up some room in the engine compartment.

Two reasons I did this. One to keep the look, but more importantly, the efan shroud did not cover enough of the radiator and I wanted to make sure I got max cooling.

The dremel cutting was not bad at all.

Doesn't seem to matter for everyday driving. I have the Mark VIII/DC controls setup and just fabbed up some brackets to hold the fan to the radiator. cools just fine. An added benefit is that I can switch back to stock for no additional cost if I sell the truck.

This is the mod I'm doing http://www.modmyf150.com/2010/02/15/...or-cooling-fan only difference is I'm going to use a DC Controller and an electric water pump in the mix.

that's cool. I was just pointing out to others that you don't have to mod the stock shroud if they don't want to and will still get good performance. I've got pics in my gallery of the brackets i fabbed up if anyone cares.

I figured from your sig pic that you probably use your truck more than the average grocery getter/weekend home depot hauler.

Just a few questions...

Does anyone have any input on wether the dc controls sp2 or FK50 is better for the lincoln mark VIII fan. I see the OP is using the sp2 but I just wanted to make sure it is more than enough to run the fan. Also, what is the recommended fuse size for the power wire from the battery to the dc controls unit?

Oh and thanks for the pics!!

Good morning sir!

Head on over to the DCcontrols web site - there is an abundance of technical information on efans, controller design, and cooling in general - good stuff indeed.

The major difference between the two designs you mentioned is, the FK50 is soft-start. This eliminates the normally huge inrush currents a simple relay controller (the SP2) will see. Hence, the FK50 can handle the Mark fan just fine, as steady-state operation draws a fraction of inrush.

Fusing - if it were me, I'd be using 80A+ fuses or circuit breakers with this fan for either controller. The FK50 has internal limiting and protection, and the SP2 will incur inrush under locked-rotor conditions. And 8-10 AWG wiring, no crimp joints.

Thank you MGD, I appreciate your input.

Now I just need to get a mark VIII fan and the money for the controller. Oh how this truck hurts my pocket...

This is basically the same setup I just ordered. I went with the FK-50, thank you MGD for helping me spend more money. I just dont want to worry about this in the future. I am also going to run UDP's and was thinking I might need a new alternator. Any advice on this? Its starting to get really hot down here and want to be covered. I figure if abgarza's setup works in brownsville, it should work in houston

I have been looking at efans and UDP lately myself. Is Troyer the only place for the UDP for the 2004-2008? I have looked and can't find any others. I'm sure Troyer is a good product I just usually like to shop around.

Summet Racing and Jegs also have the under drive pulleys. Or just Google for them

Mark 8 fan

I just picked up a Mark 8 fan from a 1997 Mark 8 LSC. It's a 2 speed fan,but the wiring harness plug only has 2 wires coming out of the plug 1 black wire, and 1 blue wire. The fan motor has 3 terminal posts in the plug housing. I'm trying to find which terminal is High speed. I put jumper wires on the 3 terminals and put the ground on -bat. terminal and switched from middle to last post trying to figure which one is high speed. It's very close,but I think the middle terminal is faster / pulling more air. Anyone on here know for sure which terminal on the motor is High?

Also I'd like to wire it up useing a switch, so I can turn it off when crossing deep water. I'd like to have the switch to be

up = High
center= OFF
down= Low

I'm not that good with wiring,but can figure it out if I had a diagram or some easy instructions on how to wire it this way. I greatly appreciate any help and advice you all can give me.
